Covid Testing for return home question

Hi everyone,

So I am trying to understand this and figured I would confirm with you guys. I am departing Toronto on Dec. 26th and I understand I require a rapid test from Shopper's Drug Mart. On the return fight home, I require a PCR/Molecular test 72 hours before departing. Can someone please confirm if that is correct? I am trying to decide what time I should book by tests? This is so stressful and wish life was normal

yes currently to fly to the US you need a rapid test up to 3 days prior to your flight. In Ontario I’d try and book at Walmart it’s cheaper.

to fly home youll need a PCR test done no more than 72 hours before your flight to Canada is scheduled to depart.

And with the announcement yesterday, it is looking like will need a repeat test at the arrival airport in Canada (with exemptions for those travelling just from the USA). Our TA interprets this to mean those who are flying home via the US (for example, cruisers) will need to get testing upon arrival. Whether that testing will be a rapid antigen test or a PCR for fully vaccinated passengers is unclear, as is the need to quarantine.

We are also flying from Toronto on the 26th. You might want to wait booking your tests down to the States until the CDC decides to keep things as they are, or change it to 24 hours before flying to the States. I wish there was some sort of standardization regarding how they specify these timelines. Some use the day criteria (i.e. must get testing 3 days prior to travel), others use a more strict hour criteria (i.e. must get testing 72 hours prior to travel). For travelling over Xmas holidays, these differences can make a difference in our ability to book testing around Christmas eve or day, or new years.
