Covid test prior to cruise. Leaving a parent behind?

My brother doesn't live with us. I can have him test the day prior. So focusing on the first part of the question, if he tests positive we can just show up without him, correct? I'm honestly most worried about his status anyway, since my son and I are extremely careful as my wife works with transplant patients.

I think this is fine. I am pretty sure there have been reports of people in same cabin, traveling to port separately, and only positive has been denied boarding. As long as you haven't been in close contact with your brother only he would need to cancel.

Even if my son and I have to cancel, I'd still be fine paying for my brother. I would still want him to cruise without us, as he lost his daughter a little over a year ago and we did our scuba certs to get his mind off it, and the cruise as reward for hanging in there. I think this is important for him to do.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. Perhaps the approach should be me talking with my brother and son and seeing if a delay on the cruise is preferred if any of us test positive.

Here’s a basic question: did you provide your brother’s home address when registering for the cruise? That would show he is not a member of your household.

As for refund, that’s a call to DCL.

I have been a no-show on a cruise, years ago, when I ended up in the hospital - everyone else checked in, no problem.

But would HE really want to cruise solo, especially after such a loss? Just my opinion, but if I were in his shoes I would prefer to have all 3 push the cruise to a future date and go together. I would probably feel extremely lonely on a cruise by myself when I had planned the company of my brother and nephew, and then with families all over the place it could be very difficult to do by myself. Just saying...

Hopefully all works out and you can all cruise with no worries!

My wife works at a major hospital, and has had time working in the Covid ward. My son is in middle school. I'm super surprised none of us has gotten Covid yet. Fingers crossed.

My plan is to rapid test the night before and whoever tests positive will stay behind. That's the right approach since someone testing positive at the port means the entire party can't cruise, right? And I assume if we show up at the cruise terminal with one fewer person, it's not a big deal, right? My other concern is what happens if I test positive. Do I just need to fill out and have notarized the "AUTHORIZATION FOR MINOR TO TRAVEL WITHOUT A PARENT or LEGAL GUARD" form and send it with my brother and son? I assume that even though the cruise was registered by me that my brother would be able to check in without me and also get off the boat with my son in Nassau (where we're scuba diving)?

If you test positive and your son has been with you, he would not be allowed to board as he has been in close contact with you, who tested positive. So the minor authorization thing is a moot point.

I'm travelling to a cruise in May with my daughter and meeting up with a friend and her daughter. We're making it a point not to meet up before the cruise and to travel to port separately (we usually hire a car/limo and go together) just in case anyone tests positive. We don't want to be the reason the other can't go on the cruise.

We went on the Dream in January. We had three rooms. Our 3rd room had two friends that did not live in the same household as the other two rooms. One of them tested positive a few days before we were to get on the ship. They called Disney and let them know. Because we did not live with them and were not in close contact, we were still able to go on the cruise.

Just in case… my BF and I were supposed to sail in Jan but, my son caught Covid (lives with us but was not going on that cruise) passed it onto my BF…we called a day or 2 before the cruise to reschedule it… it was super easy and since we weren’t sure of which cruise we were going to reschedule it too they moved our $$$ to a cruise with a PIF way out because I knew I we had vacation in March… fingers crossed that we stay neatly and Covid free between now and the 26th… but just wanted you to know I didn’t have to show any proof of Covid positive and DCL makes it super easy in case something goes wrong! I hope everyone including your brother stays heathy and Covid free and you guys have a great trip!!

not sure how this would work, how would they prove that they haven't been around the brother? Have the brother call in? Do they take it that far or just allow the rest of the party to board without question?

Testing before port arrival is fine, but if you have a family or a group that has been together, and some or one test positive, no one will be boarding. There's an OP who wants to just show up without the positive guests. What will they say when asked where the no-shows are?

Why not test two or three weeks out? If any of you is positive, get a note 11 days later that says you have recovered from COVID. Then you won't have to test at the port.

If you are negative, GREAT. Just test again at the port and hope for the best.
