COVID super spreading family we know **Our friend has passed away**

You must have missed my follow up post because that was actually my point...maybe read a bit further :)

I'm surprised people didn't get the point of my post...but maybe I shouldn't be
I've been some what keeping up with people here and there and I know you know about contract tracing. You were talking about closing things without proof that is should be closed is that correct? That's how I was reading it not that you were unaware of the contact tracing situation here.

Why would anyone not answer their phone after testing? I don't know. As I stated...a bit baffling. Positive results are relayed and discussed by phone. Only negative results are emailed. Those who answer often argue about the results.

No, we know someone who received a positive result by email.

I believe you referenced 'tracing' for 'testing.' Post #209 And others thought testing was at that point the discussion.

Yeah basically that's what I was meaning.

Our friend called me today. He is in ICU, tough case of COVID pneumonia. He says he hopes it does not come to a ventilator. He said his arterial blood gas is low, but stable.

He said he is scared.

Thanks for your continued good thoughts and prayers.
Update from today on our friend. His daughter said he is not good. He is on a bipap and getting plasma. Daughter and wife went to the hospital today and were able to look through the ICU window at him. They said he perked up some when he saw them. The doctors met with them both and said he may be going on a ventilator as his pneumonia is not improving.

Tough days.

I hear you....I just think we're at the point where we have to get through this the best we can. In NY, Cuomo shut down indoor dining again in the city without really much evidence that it is the cause of cases going up. They were only at 25% capacity. So I guess it was due to the CDC classifying it as high risk and warned anyone over 65 or with pre-exisiting conditions to avoid any indoor space with unmasked patrons. It felt to me like they made that call simply to do something....anything. I really think it's just impossible at this point. If you don't want to get Covid at this point, avoid people if you can. That's not possible for everyone...I know that.

And yes, I'm the one that mentioned that so far, my family had avoided Covid....until Monday, when I talked to my sister. She's feeling better, as far as fatigue/chills/headache....but today woke up with no sense of taste or smell. Her husband isn't feeling so great...fever, chills, nausea, fatigue....he's pretty miserable. I dropped off a pulse ox there so they'd have it. He has asthma is overweight (but not obese). So, they're both isolated in different rooms now, my teenager niece and nephew are downstairs waiting for their PCR test results. We're dropping off food at the door....and keeping tabs on them. My sister takes Humira for Rheumatoid Arthritis, so it's possible that she got it, even with mask...and then passed it to her husband. But there's no way of knowing. Thanks for the well wishes.
Keep us updated please on their status

Sorry for the confusion. We have difficulty contacting folks for a positive test. Without this step ....no chance to contact trace. Most refuse to "snitch" or have no clue You can take your pick. It is frustrating.

Personally I keep a diary of my daily activities..just in case.

Wishing your sister's family well, dvcgirl.

Sorry to hear that your friend is still struggling. There are most definitely people who go on vents now and survive this virus, so your friend's family should have hope. Covid patients get so tired that when they get to the point where your friend is, sometimes that vent will give his body/lungs the time to rest in order to overcome it. I really hope he makes it Dan.

Thanks for asking guys. My sister is doing well....most of her symptoms are gone, except for the loss of taste/smell which were the last symptoms to show up. My BIL is having a tougher time, but thankfully no shortness of breath yet, and he's checking his O2 levels with the pulse ox and he's been over 95%...so that's good. But he's got fever, chills, achy, really tired (sleeping a lot), nausea....and other intestinal issues. Said this is the sickest he's ever been. He has asthma and is overweight, but not obese. I think guys have a tougher time in general...and he's not in the best shape. So, we're hoping his symptoms start to improve. Thankfully my niece and nephew are negative.

I heard of a bunch of other people testing positive today....friends of friends. Stay safe everyone...and thanks again for asking after my peeps.

This is one reason why contact tracing does not work in the US. Can’t infringe on Americans’ civil rights—even though nearly every app that is on everyone’s smartphone and websites that people browse keep tabs on every individual’s whereabouts. This is frustrating.

Very true, dvcgirl. Hoping it is this way for him. Thanks,

Good to hear about the oxygen though the other stuff bites. Hope he feels better and she gets her taste and smell back.

I've been finding it interesting just how many people these days are losing taste and/or smell. I remember when it wasn't hugely common just this really strange symptom. I know someone who is an EMT said he was positive on 11/27 and he lost his taste first then about 3 days later from the test result coming back he lost his smell. I don't believe he's gotten them back quite yet.
