Cove Cafe is supposed to be adults only...

my thoughts probably will not be popular however i don't blame the parents. maybe they don't realize that cove cafe is adults only. maybe they do realize but think it would be quicker to get kid's smoothy there. maybe its the case of the rule doesn't apply to me. there could be a dozen reasons why the adult brings the child in.

i blame the cm. they should be the one saying sorry, if you walk out the door and take 15 steps to the left you will find a smoothy bar. they should be the ones enforcing the rules at all times, passengers should not have to remind them of the rule. its not up to us, its up to them and we should not even have to be a part of it. thats IF the cm does their job and imo they should.

when a parent brings their child in and is permitted to use the facility they are going to come back, maybe even tell others 'hey, if its busy there just pop into cove cafe. they don't care'. by the cm serving them they are saying its okay. of course they will be back. they just broke the rule and it worked.

so, again, i don't blame the parents i blame the cm.

Nothing sucks the specialness out of your 20 year old's first trip to Cove Café than another parent bringing their grade school children in to get their milk shakes.
Just FYI to that parent who glared at me a few days ago as I watched her children get served their drinks before my son received his (even though he ordered first)..I didn't say anything at the time because my son asked me not to, but next time I am going to approach you and the CMs serving you and politely remind you all that Cove Café is supposed to be for adults only.

I have recently been asked about whether DCL was a good option for those cruising without children and I am going to have to be honest and say that DCL does not do a good job of keeping the kids out of the adults only areas:sad2:

Hoping this serves as a reminder to the parents cruising that your kids should wait until they are 18 to enter Cove Café....
My 17 year old has never been inside and is looking forward to her first visit when she is 18+.

OP: Perhaps the parent didn't know the Cove Cafe was just for adults? :confused3 I'm sorry it sucked the specialness out of your 20 year old's first trip to Cove Cafe. I hope it didn't ruin their cruise.

What's the big deal? Kids got their shakes and left - simmer down.

That goes for most of you "adults" on a Disney cruise - yes there will be kids around - even in the adult areas. Let the CM"s handle it - if you still have an issue maybe try a princess or royal cruise.

Better yet - don't rant on a message board annonymously.

If you read the original post carefully, you'll see that the CM didn't handle it, which is what appeared to frustrate the OP and most of the adults who frequent the adults only areas. It really shouldn't have to be the CM's job to handle it. That responsibility falls to the parents.

If the CM"s aren't handling it than obviously it is okay.

She's complainning about her 20 year old having the "specialness" sucked out of it - lol.

20 years old is not a kid in my book - he even had the sense to tell his mom not to make a big deal out of it.

Sure it's an "adult" area but if no one enforces the rules and people may or may not know its an "adult" area use the facility it's on the CM's to tell them.

I don't know how people can't know. It is written on all entrances to the area.

Easy, not everyone reads or understands English.

I believe it should def be on the part of the CM to enforce the rules, not just the parents. Plus, the way DCL has designed the upper deck, its almost certain that a child will walk through...maybe loud, maybe rambunctious, but DCL hasn't said that kids cannot walk through the adult areas.

That's the problem with DCL employees, they are taught to avoid negativity and don't want to tell a guest "no" even if they are doing something wrong. It seems like they will usually ignore the issue, unless another guest brings it to their attention, which I don't think we should have to do.

It really depends. I think some CMs think that is what they are suppose to do but some take their jobs very professionally and follow the rule book to a t including telling people no. On the Fantasy the deck crew was amazing and let no one skip by on the rules. I even remeber the deck crew telling parents their kids could not be in the cafe and directing them upstairs or offering to get then the drinks and bringing it to the family area.

My last cruise (and first) was on the Dream and several times I seen kids walking around the adult area. I also seen them in the Cove. I was kind of surprised.
When we were walking around the ship and learning where things were we accidentally walked into the adult area with my 14 yo and as soon as I realized we were in the adult section I turned around and left and told him that was the adult area and he wasn't allowed in there. I say it is a matter of respecting the rules and respecting those in that area.

I can understand the OP frustrations. Your child is finally old enough for the adult area and you have made them wait for several years to go into that area so it is a special time. You want them to see how it is in a adult only area and they are now FINALLY allowed to enter it!! Yeah!!
Then to see someone just walk in with their kids is a let down. Then it isn't so special anymore or so much of a adult only area.

i didn't know on my first cruise. i didn't have any children with me so all in all it didn't matter. i never read the navigators and if signs were there i never noticed or never paid attention.

i only found out cove cafe was adults only after i discovered the DIS. this was years ago on the magic.

believe me, it does happen.

If they can't read...

My thought is if you can communicate enough to order a smoothie, you should be able to know that the area is for adults only. At least on the Fantasy, the entrance is from the adult area sun decks if I remember right, but the cove pool, so you're already in "adult territory" when you enter.

I'm shocked, although I actually didn't go in. I was just on the Fantasy. I did walk into the adults area with my 6 year old because the elevator let us out (we were coming from somewhere other than our room). I was embarrassed, but just ushered her through quickly. She knew it was the adults only area, and didn't say anything. but I would not have thought to stop with her in the Cove.

Yeah the elevators are in a awkward spot.

There are signs up on the Plexiglas that you have to walk around in order to enter that area. They are easy to miss if you aren't paying attention but it doesn't take long to realize it is a adult only section once in there. Even though I accidentally walked into the area (then quickly turned around and left) I wouldn't dare have thought that since we are in here why don't we stop in the cove.

The CM in the Cove really should have said something to them.

Wow.

I don't know, this seems a little blown out of proportion to me. Agreed the kids shouldn't have been in there, but I don't think it's any of our places to instruct other passengers on rules or make it a point to tell someone off because we don't think they are following the rules.

If something bothers you tell a CM and let them handle it- if it escalates they're in a position to handle it. Otherwise I think you're just instigating trouble and who wants to argue with a stranger on their vacation?

Oh I would never ever tell another traveler but I might find a cm to let them know. It just depends on the situation. On our most recent cruise the conversations that were happening in adults only areas would be enough for parents to scoop the littlw ones up and rush them to the Mickey pool haha.

When we tell other adults that we do Disney Cruises; the first thing they ask is, 'aren't there too many kids on the ship to enjoy it?' And I tell them they have plenty of ADULT ONLY AREAS on the ship; and that's why my wife and I love cruising Disney. We have never experienced kids in the "Adults only" areas WHILE WE WERE IN THEM.

When we are outside the Adult Only areas; I wont' have a conniption fit when kids are running into me, which they have 'literally'. But I do expect Disney to follow their own rules in the "Adult Only Areas" and keep the children under 18 out.

If it is a quick getting through from point A to point B reason I am OK with that. But to order a food item because my child is too impatient to wait in line at another spot (or it isn't available anywhere else) BE A PARENT and let them know that it can wait. Or (heaven forbid) the significant other waits outside the Adult Only area with the child while the other person goes to order it.

I hope the OP at least mentioned this to guest services before leaving the ship or listed it on their survey form (and marked them as less than satisfactory) at the end of the cruise.
