Every time I am at DCA the line to Cove Bar looks unbearably long. During my next trip I am promising myself that I'll make an effort to go. I know it opens at 11am... do people typically line up before it opens?

Also, what are your favorite drinks there? 11am seems a bit early to drink, but I'm willing to make a sacrifice in this situation  I know the Mickey's Fun Wheel is a big hit, but it looks a little too sugary for my liking.

It's not long if you're there when they open. I love the lobster nachos and like the fajita quesadilla rolls even better. I always get a nonalcoholic mojito because I'm a sissy at that time of day and they're really good. A real one would be even better.

I'll say I've waited in line twice after being quoted a 45-min wait and waited less than 20 minutes both times. That's been in the evening, though.

We went during spring break (4/17?) that morning we got to the parks at 7:30 (8 am opening), which meant we left the hotel at about 7:10 and ate breakfast at 6:30, so an early lunch at 11 didn't really feel too early. We got in line 5 min before opening (10-15 parties deep) and sat right away. We were headed out by 11:45. I had a mai tai and it was EXCELLENT.

The lines start an easy 30 minutes before opening. 11am too early to drink? On which planet? The smoked Turkey is one of my favorites there. Their mojitos are great. They make a great manhattan. You get the idea... everything is great. Lobster nachos are great and the spinach/artichoke dip we tried last time was good as well.

I was there both Saturday and Sunday, both times the lines were long but it was under 45 minutes - under 30 minutes on Sunday.

My favorite drinks are Sea Witch and Pina Colava. And I love the lobster nachos.

The lines looked ridiculously long* the week after spring break. I wanted to try it so bad! Maybe next time!

*winding around a little even

I shockingly waited less than 20 minutes last Thursday around noon. It was awesome and very unexpected.

11am too early to drink? On which planet?

Certainly not the planet where Trader Sam's is located. That place is packed with people drinking at 11am every day!

I've always wanted to go to Cove Bar, and I'm also going to make sure I hit it on my trip in July. Sounds like 10:30am is the time to get in line. I'm guessing the July crowds will seem much more tolerable after some lobster nachos and a cocktail or five.

That's what I'm talking about!!!

I assume to get a table near the water, you can request such, assuming you are willing to wait even longer? Or is there a best place to sit?

Weren't they doing pagers for awhile? Are they not doing that any more?

I've been several times over the last couple years and I've never been given a pager or been allowed to put my phone number on a list.

We had lunch there today. We got there about 15 minutes early not even thinking there would be a line (have been before and did not have a line). There were about 6-7 groups lined up. Hostess asked us if we had any requests, I said table by the water. Was not expecting that since we had a party of 5, but got it. They sat us right at 11.

We love Cove Bar but hadn't eaten there in many trips because of the long lines. The last week of February at 12:30, we went to just check out how long the wait was and there was literally only 1 person in line in front of us! We had a group of 10 and got seated in just a few minutes. About 5 minutes after we sat down the line stretched all the way to the back! It was crazy, we definitely felt like we had lucked upon some Disney magic. Great food, great drinks, great service and great atmosphere. There's a reason that line is always long!
