Courtyard DTD--renovated rooms?

I've read so many mixed reviews about the Courtyard DTD that I'm not sure if this is where I want to go or not. I was told they are in the process of renovating some of their rooms. I believe they are renovating the rooms in the "annex" first. Has anyone stayed in a renovated room and what was their impression of it? I understand they have queen size beds, as opposed to the double beds in the older rooms. Has anyone gotten a renovated room at the $20.03 rate?

Some people report great experiences at the Courtyard while others report bad smells and traffic noises and traffic fumes as far up as 9 stories. I guess it just depends on what room you get.

Hi Vhoffman,

I just stayed at the CbM a few weeks ago -- my comments are posted here on the budget board somewhere if you run a search under "EthansMom" it should pop up.

In my opinion, if you're paying the $20.03/night rate then you're probably getting a decent deal. But for that rate, don't expect one of the renovated rooms or a view of DTD fireworks. Do insist on a room that doesn't smell moldy. (My SIL had to go through 3-4 rooms before she found us some that didn't smell moldy -- though ours had a strong bleach smell.)

Also, I found that it was worth paying a few bucks and driving to the parks rather than taking the interminable bus ride was well worth the money if you rent a car. We were able to get a cheap car through Thrifty (paid $85 for the week, including tax -- course if was a yucky car, but we only needed it to get from point A to point B).

I also recommend eating breakfast at the Perkins restaurant at the Crossroads mall. It was the cleanest, had the best food, best service and most reasonable prices of any breakfasts we ate (including eating at the buffet at CbM).

All that said, I paid $39/night during the week and $69/night on weekends at CbM. From my SILs comments regarding our stay at CbM versus her previous stay at Grosvenor, I would try to book the Grosvenor at the $55 rate (using the coupon from the discount book) in the future.

I hope this helps!
