Court slaps down ACLU

Sure. My son's class (when he was younger) was asked to bring in their favorite book and talk about it to the class. DS brought the Bible. I was called and told to come pick it up and got a "talking to". We did not suggest to DS what book he should bring, BTW. If you want to reign in all of us darned Christians then at least put equal effort into reigning in the anti-religious zealots as well, IMO.

That's not an example of a school 'prohibiting a student from bringing a Bible to school to read silently during free time' - in your situation, the book was to be discussed in class.

When I attended school - a time when separation of church and state was seriously regarded - I took a Bible to school with me and read it silently during free time and I was never told that I couldn't. Even wore "Jesus" t-shirts. Imagine that.

The difference is - I was an indivdual expressing my freedom to worship, act according to my personal beliefs - the other cases involve school officals leading religious discussion to a captive audience. They are not the same and the ACLU would view them very differently.

Posts I made in reply to questions about this confirm - he was told he could not bring it to school under ANY circumstances. No captive audiences, not teachers leading discussions. He just couldn't have it with him on school property. Period.

Wow, that's definitely wrong not to let him have it on school property at all. I do see why it shouldn't be discussed in class, of course. But not to let him have it at school is definitely wacko.

Anyway, I think I number among those who can't understand why people need to have the 10 Commandments in a court building. :confused3

Very well said by President Clinton. :)
