Coupon Train ~~ New Riders Welcome!

I just discovered this after paying $5.70 to send out my last batch of "really large quantities" but my DH said something about there being a cheaper way cuz that is what he uses to mail his used school books.

Your DH uses media mail for his textbooks. This is cheaper for packages weighting 1 pound and up. However, it can only be used if the item enclosed counts as "media," and I don't think coupons fall into that category.

Here's what the USPS says:
Generally used for books (at least eight pages), film (16 mm or narrower), printed music, printed test materials, video and sound recordings, playscripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, and computer-readable media. Sound recordings may include incidental announcements of recordings and guides or scripts prepared solely for use with such recordings. Books may contain no advertising other than incidental announcements of other books.

Not exactly sure how the p.o. interprets "computer-readable media" but I tend to think the barcodes on coupons would not qualify. In addition to this info, media mail is quite slow compared to first class mail and especially compared to priority mail. The coupons could conceivably arrive very close to expiration or after they expire. :guilty:

Considering joining. What could I expect as far as postage costs, number of times I'll rec coupons sent to me, wWould I need to fine tim eto get to post office to send the batch along? etc? I see posts about postage of $5.70 for one package. Not sure I could squeeze enough savings out of it if I had to send multiple $5 packages along ....

My postage is very rarely over $2 per week. I am normally in the $1.50 range. I use the 5x7 manila envies. I use the postoffice $4.90 envies that ShiPooOwner mentioned to send to Sleepy. Those work very well.

I send a 5x8 manilla envelope most weeks, costs around $2 postage. Some weeks with less coupons, I send a letter sized envie, costing $1+. We send weekly on Mondays - I'm sure Shipoo, our conductor, will PM you!

I say if you can get to po every week, it's worth it. :thumbsup2I saved $80 last week at the grocery store. AND it's like xmas every week when you get your coupons :)

Hoosiergirl7- got my envie today. Thank you. You have been a great train buddy.

I just got back from CVS and had to share. Of course, I am probably the last one to figure this out, but I don't usually use this product so that is my excuse.

At CVS Oust is $3.99 and get $3 extra bucks, the limit is three. I remembered seeing B1G1 coupons for Oust. So I bought 4 at B1G1, expecting to get $9 back. I got $12 back...:confused3, but hey, who am I to agrue with the computer. :rotfl: So, I spent $7.98 on 4 cans and got $12 back. :thumbsup2 How's that for some savings?

I'm just sorry I only just today did my CVS shopping and wasn't able to share this earlier in the week.
