I know all you creative disers will have great ideas for me! DH & I just got invited to a 40th Halloween Costume Party. Obviously I'd like them not to be budget busters, but I would like to be creative!
I'd love to hear ideas and/or suggestions!
TIA!:)

Last year my Hubby Dude and I went as 70's people. I found a dress on ebay really cheap. My white boots are from a party store and were on sale for like $15 (not the most comfortable things in the world but I did last all night in them). Hubby Dude bought a tie dye tshirt (I can't remember what store) and an afro wig from the party store. He just wore his jeans with it. I think the total cost for both of our costumes was around $60 (boots $15, dress $15, tie dye shirt $20 and wig $10 - I think the wig may have been cheaper than that). Not the cheapest but wow I was really amazed how expensive costumes were when we started looking.

A friend of mine bought a suit and a formal dress at goodwill and stitched them together. She was half man, half woman. It was really cool. Not sure your what your Hubby would be if you were half man and half women though. She turned out so neat.. I'll see if I can get her permission to post a pic of her in costume.

Here's a pic of us at a friends house before we left for the party:

Dh and I are going to MNSSHP next week and he is going kinda as Dog the Bounty Hunter and he wanted me to go as Beth, but I don't wear shorts, so I am not going out dressed like that. I am wearing a black sleeveless dress I have and I bought a red cape at Party City for $18. DH will wear a black sleevless shirt and camo pants and combat boots, most of which he already has.

Sponge Bob and Patrick. Use the egg crate that you put on beds and paint it yellow. Patrick is a big Pink blob so that should be easy enough.

Oh man, I have a list....LOL We always try to do couples costumes. :)

Last year we were a cowboy and his Indian, cost was $22.95 for my Indian girl outfit, he's got all the cowboy gear already. :) That was our cheapest.
We've also got a schoolgirl and priest costume, a cleopatra and anthony set, we are talking this year about Aladdin & Jasmine or Sandy & Danny or Jack and Sally or a few others....we haven't decided. You can find a lot of cute ideas out there for couples, just do a google search for couples costumes and you'll find a bunch. :)

One year my husband was Frankenstein and I was the Bride of Frankenstein.

The best was the year I went as Elvis and my husband went as Marilyn Monroe (he is such a good sport about stuff like that... he will do anything to make people laugh) :rotfl2:

Fred and Wilma Flintsone
John McCain and Sarah Palin
Shaggy and Scooby or Velma and Fred or Daphne and Fred

We had friends once who did liberal and conservative
They had election buttons for those candidates and the conservative one had a toy gun and a few other props. I am trying to remember what the liberal had -I think it was a bleeding heart. I will try to remember what else

Sam Adams and St. Pauli Girl. It was a great excuse to buy a huge padded bra and to carry a huge mug of beer.

We've also done Elvis and Priscilla.

Alright...it wasn't budget, but totally worth it. My husband is generally the quiet type, but it's was amazing what he was willing to agree to when he saw me in my costume :rotfl2:

Btw...in case you didn't know...Hansel and Gretel!

I have been trying to talk DH into being a doctor to my naughty nurse, but he says that might not be appropriate at WDW :lmao: :rotfl2:

Hans and Franz from the old SNL skit. Just get some grey sweats and stuff them with muscles! Comfort is key! :cool1:

My favorite was when my aunt and uncle went as a TV remote control and a couch potato. He wore a burlap sack with "potatoes" made from polyfill and she had a sandwich board type of remote with buttons. He even arrived on an old loveseat in the back of their truck. :lmao:

Last year, very last minute we went as an Amish couple. Hubby used old Halloween hair from something as a long beard, straw hat from 1 year old's previous scarecrow costume, buttoned up a shirt (I know no buttons-this was last minute) left out. I wore a long dress, put my hair in a bun with dd's white cap we bought at Betsy Ross' house in Philly or Colonial Williamsburg. It was fun, easy, all things on hand and got the friends rolling when we walked in. Trying to figure out how to top it-the Sarah Palin/Joesph Bidden might be funny.

Hubby and I are going as a very important and influential couple......

Mario and Luigi!!! Love it!! I am shorter and rounder so Mario of course and he is taller with a mini spare tire so voila! Luigi!!

I already have capri overalls so just going to wear those and buy a red shirt and hat and getting him some overalls from eBay and a green shirt and hat. Seems cheap enuf! Oh, and moustaches of course!

If you are looking for some idea's you should check this place out: Fancy Dress Costumes UK. I get my Halloween costume idea's from there, and yes they do have things for both men and women, in all sizes. Really, you should check them out, they have some pretty cool stuff!

Mr & Mrs. Potato Head

Buy lots of brown felt or other cheap material from the craft store for bodies. Make extra pieces, and use velcro so they can be changed. My husband and I alway fight over the angry eyes. I just wear a thin long sleeved tee shirt (black) and some black tights with my potato body--husband wears t shirt with sweatpants--he is not comfortable with only his short potato body form and will not wear tights.

A friend of mine once went to a party with her hubby and I thought their idea was great and a little "tongue in cheek"...

She was a brick...he was the Brick Layer!!!

My husband and I have gone as a naughty baker and I an oven with a bun in it (I was pregnant), a brick house (I found some brick material and sewed a simple A line dress) and brick layer (husband found some coveralls and we ironed on letters). Have also seen a bottle of Crown and a Coke bottle, Howie Mandel and a pretty lady with silver briefcase, President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, Starsky & Hutch, Mr & Mrs Potato Head (each with a pocket in back with different parts).

This year if we go to a party we will be an Almond Joy & Mars bar (because he has n*ts and I don't-sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't!). It's an adults only party btw!!!
