Just things that popped into my head for our trip in 29 days (squeeee!)

1 - can we feed the trolley horses apples or carrots?

2 - My father was a steam train guy and I would love to offer some train pins from his collection to the engineer of the loci for a trade. Will they do that - allow me to approach the cab, or do they frown on that?

No feeding of the trolley horses is allowed, you're not even allowed to tough them while they are working. In the afternoon you can visit the ranch and they often have one out there that you can pet but still no feeding.

I'm not sure about the train question...

Even better, ride the tender.
Ask at the Main Street station if tender rides are available. You father will ride on a bench at the front of the tender, directly behind the engine.
The engineers might not have any pins to trade, but will likely enjoy a train related pin (as a gift).

Do you mean the Big Thunder Mtn. Ranch aka the petting zoo behind Thunder Mtn. Railroad?

Most likely the train engineers don't carry pins. I've heard that cast members in attractions can't trade because it could distract them while they're looking out for any safety issues.

Thanks. My father has passed away, but I know he would have appreciated it if I made the effort to talk to the engineer on his behalf. I'll offer the engineer a pin anyway, no trade required.

Sad about the horses. I used to work with draft horses who pull wagons in our town during the summer and I love the big lugs.
