Couple of Questions about Midnight Madness at Typhoon Lagoon

There is a Midnight Madness during our upcoming visit to WDW in June. I have never had a chance to attend any Midnight Madness event before, and have never been to Typhoon Lagoon, ever. So just curious how the event is for those who have been to one before at TL. When does it usually start and how long does it last, etc. I tried to find this info at DVC site, without much luck. Also, is there anything to do for older people who probably won't want to swim? I'd really like to experience one of these member exclusive events so figured we should go even though a few in the party aren't really swimmers. I would love to hear any thoughts or experiences people have had. Trying to decide if a couple older grandparents would have fun there, or if they just go over to Disney Springs for the evening, etc.

I wrote a recap of the last Typhoon Lagoon Moonlight Magic here:

There isn't a lot to do if you don't want to get wet. However if you've never seen the inside of the Disney waterpark, you may enjoy the opportunity to walk around. There will be free refreshments and unique character meet opportunities.

It is a large park and somewhat difficult to navigate after dark. If your party is going to split up, make sure you identify some landmark for a meet-up spot. Carrying cell phones isn't practical for those who are using the facilities, so make sure people stay in groups and check-in frequently.

OP - Knowing how DVC members roll, we arrived early & were permitted early access to the park. Were able to work in 2 slides before the official opening time when the lines did form for the slides. As stated in the above review, the crowds died down and many seemed to be leaving when we did, round 9:00 pm. My GD had so much fun, she just tuckered out or we'd have stayed longer.

You could still easily kick off your shoes and wade in the shallow waters, fully clothed. Be aware the waves are pretty strong, don't go too deep at first, you may be surprised. There is a rocky ledge around part of the pool where u can sit but often the waves will splash up.

JIK it's a consideration, the stage area music/MC was loud even where we had set up camp at the far side of pool, near the kid's water slide.

Love TL! One tip: Crush N Gusher will close at dark, so make sure to ride that first as it will close by 8pm...

I can't remember if we had access to lockers, but I seem to remember them having towels for us...

My son and husband loved the Typhoon Lagoon midnight madness. Me, I loved the idea of it, but once I got wet, I got cold super quickly without the sun to warm me up, even though it was a warm summer night. I spent most of my night curled up in towels waiting for my boys to tucker out. It wasn’t too much fun, so i would leave anyone home who isn’t fond of swimming or who gets cold easily.

I recall (but could be wrong) going on Crush N Gusher after dark last summer, there were bright flood lights on the exit pool.. (I know it was closed in 2015 for the DVC beach party)

You could still get lockers. And Towels are free anytime to any on-site Guest

I went with my two teens last July. I hadn't been since they were babies since we don't normally go down in swim weather. We had a great time. I did more slides than I thought I would and we spent a lot of time in the lazy river. I'd forgotten how dangerous the wave pool is though. More than once we got dragged under, people landing on you etc.

Crush n Gusher was definitely open after dark.

The only issue I remember is the cast members kept sending us to the wrong bus stop on the way out.

Senior citizen....70 ish, love the wave pool, and DH only goes for Lazy River and treats. DSis, just a bit younger joined me in Wave Pool, and she enjoyed dancing. We all enjoyed Geni interaction!

Have been twice, but dates do not work this year.

Great! We did this a couple of years ago and it closed at dark (and there were a number of comments about that). Seems like they listened!

Thanks for all the good pointers and information. One of the grandparents, isn't a fan of swimming, so I will let him decide. He is the original member and loves to do "DVC" things, so I will let him decide if he wants to just go over, look around and head back to the villa to relax or skip it altogether. None of us are big swimmers, honestly, but have never had a chance to go to TL ever as we just aren't people who swim all day. It sounds like regardless it may be a fun night, especially for the kids, a nice way to enjoy a member advantage and have a nice time.

We went last year and had an absolute blast. Got there at 6 and practically had to be dragged out of the wave pool at the end of the night. Options for the non-swimming grandparent - free snacks, character meets, a DJ area and there was an area where you could chat with DVC execs. That might be right up their alley.

It was plenty warm in July and we all loved not having to worry about sunscreen, my MIL was flabbergasted that the water parks weren't open every night in the summer time. It was hard to get around after dark, we kept going down the wrong paths and it took us quite a while to figure out where we could get the free ice cream.

But seriously one of our best Disney experiences ever.
