I went to Christmas Tree Shop last night. There are three HP spaces opposit the door, and I parked in the middle one; the other two were empty.

When I left, there were still no cars in either space - possibly because there was no customer eligible to park there, but MORE likely because each spot contained two or three shopping carts.

The lot is only three cars deep - one double row, one row against the edge of the lot - and has cart return corrals... so nobody leaving a cart in an HP space would need to walk more than FIFTEEN FEET further. But nooooo....

Every morning, I stop at Dunkin Donuts and use the drive-through window. Despite the small parking lot size, and the well-marked parking spaces, invariably some idiot blocks the curb cut - and that's just the couple of minutes I'm there. I'm SURE it's a consistent practice.

i wish that stores would put a cart return corral at the FRONT of the parking lot. dont use a wheelchair all the time, but i do use the handicapped parking spots (with a legal permit and everything). when i come out with a cart, i wish there was a place to put it right there, because in some places (like my old walmart) the handicapped spaces were about 20 yards from the building, and walking even that far after being in a large store is very difficult for me. if stores wont do that, then they need to send people out MUCH more often to make sure the handicapped spaces are clear!

I had a small pick up and did not see the basket behind me. Crunch.

I leave baskets in the middle where the hood of the car is not the sides. I do not understand why people leave carts behind cars and in spaces. for the past 30 years I have been using my bumper as a battering ram and moving them shopping carts as I do not see why I should get out and move them. A couple times in my life I have had people park so close to my car that the only thing to do was crawl in a window or wait.

I use disabled for mom and find also that I need room to get her out and there are the baskets in the way. Big hugs and thanks ofr a good vent.

Shopping carts and piles of snow in handicapped parking spots are my two pet peeves.
Why do the stores use the hp spots as a place to push all the snow from the lot? Grr.

It's one of my pet peeves. I usually drive alone and can't get my wheelchair out of my car unless there's space to do it. I even have taken pictures of places that upset me by this...

Why would anyone think that's a reasonable place to put their cart?

Ah, c'mon Bill. Be serious. I mean, it's not as if those carts are preventing someone from parking... :teeth: They're just preventing someone with a wheelchair lift from getting IN or OUT of the parked vehicle.

I really don't get it. If I can return my cart to the corral or the front of the store, I don't see why a fully-abled customer can't. So it was cold out. Big deal. I ended up collecting the carts and pushing them onto the sidewalk.

Not all of us can do that; I understand. But these carts weren't more than fifteen FEET from the sidewalk. I just don't get why people are so lazy/inconsiderate.

I always think the same thing!
I do realize some carts are left by the handicapped who have trouble walking without the cart. I found a cane in one cart left. Turned it into lost and found at the store, hope whoever lost it, remembers where!
They do really need a return next to the spots. My Kmart has one between the HP and other spots. That's the only store I can think of that does.

Even on my tiredest days at the store I always return the basket into a corral or put it in front of the car so others can get out of their car. In Bill's picture I would have a hard time getting out of my car as I would not be able to get the door open. I would have to park to the far left in either space to let mom out of the car. She requires the door to be wide open.
