My husband and I are doing the parks for a few days without the baby. We want to see as much as possible and, except for Calif Grille and 50"s, will probably use counter service. What would you suggest in Epcot and AK? We's still like to have a little "atmosphere"?:Pinkbounc

I can't believe no one's answered you! Well, for AK we went to the Flame Tree BBQ. Got our meal at the counter and then took the winding path down to the river and sat at a table in a little pavillion. It was really cooler down there and quiet. The river was real pretty. Great spot to relax. Also, though we didn't eat there, Tusker House looks very inviting. I've heard it has lots of atmosphere too. We went in there for a cool drink. It's also counter service.

As for Epcot, Sunshine Food Fair is great! It has lots of options and a fun atmosphere. I think it's in the Land pavillion. Or you could just "snack around the world". Just about each country has some kind of fast food counter. You could sample a little here and a little there and enjoy the streetmosphere entertainment!

Just some thoughts.:bounce:

Tusker House really does has a lot of atmosphere. There is so much detail in the theming of each room. Also, if you go out into the courtyard often there is live music/dancing African styled entertainment. It's fantastic!

As far as theming in Epcot, I don't think the atmosphere of San Angel can be beat but it's a sit down restaurant. I have heard great things about Yakatori in Japan. Good food and indoor dining but it sounds as if most folks like to eat in the garden/courtyard area there. I have plans of trying it next trip. I have tried many of the other counter service restaurants in Epcot and I don't think the places I've tried so far are going to give you the atmosphere you're looking for.

Have fun!

AK: Flame Tree B-B-Q! Just like an above poster we ate our meal in a pavilion by the river and it was very peaceful and relaxing. The food was good too! :)

Can't really comment on Epcot we always eat full serve there.

Ok, this is kind of funny, but here is our counterservice with atmosphere story.

We ate at Pecos Bills for lunch in October. The food was good, and we sat on the patio to eat. Behind and to the left of us was a couple.. kind of young, probably in their late 20s. Well, the guy kept feeding the birds his french fries... by the time we left, there must have been at least 50 birds descending on that place.. and more coming. So much for not feeding the wildlife so it won't affect their diets. Those birds were like they hadn't eaten in years, and the more that came, the more the guy fed them. I am just glad we got out of there before they started to digest what they were eating...lol!

We have eaten at Yakitori many times and have always enjoyed eating outside in their courtyard area. It's tucked in among the gardens and is a nice atmosphere.

I don't know the name of the counter service in the China Pavilion, but you can sit outside overlooking the temple and water gardens.

Other ideas for counter service with nice outdoor seating areas in Epcot are Kringla Bakery in Norway and the bakery in France (has quiche).

In AK, we've enjoyed Tusker House, especially the outside seating area near the bar, and Flame Tree BBQ.

Hope this helps!

tusker house is one of our favorites for either breakfast or lunch! the grilled salmon is very good!:p

In MK, I always recommend the Columbia Harbour House for a relaxing counter service restaurant. You must go UPSTAIRS though. Most people don't do up there.

At Epcot, you can grab some Fish & Chips from Yorkshire County Fish Shop and eat it down by the water overlooking World Showcase Lagoon or in the gardens behind the shops in the UK. Or, you could check out either The Britsh Invasion or Off Kilter (Canada).

I fully agree with The Tusker House at AK. Flametree BBQ wasn't open on our last two trips :( so I can't comment on it. BTW, the Pizzafari has some great themed rooms but it tends to be loud with families. Most kids love pizza! :)

At MGM, there are a lot of counter service places but none have what I would call a distinctive "atmosphere". For a good variety, I always tell people to check out the ABC Commissary.

While most resorts have food courts, the best (IMO) is located at the French Quarter - Riverside (also known as Dixie Landings in a past life). Worth the effort to check out!

Cosmic Ray's is a fun place to eat in Tomorrowland. There's an audioanimatronic type guy playing piano and singing. Kids like it alot and I thought it was cute too.

I would definitely say...Snack around the world !!!
BF and I have made this a tradition every trip. We even have specific things we have to get every trip.
Margaritas in Mexico
Candy from the shop in Germany.
Bf likes to have his bratwurst or something to that effect in Germany also
Tiramisu in Italy
Sushi in Japan
any kind of pastry in France
....these are just our traditions...make your own.

Just our favorite suggestions Flame Tree BBQ at AK. Tangerine Cafe Morocco Epcot. If you eat lunch early at FT BBQ it is peaceful with a very relaxing atmosphere with all the terraced seating spots with beautiful foilage.
So much for not feeding the wildlife so it won't affect their diets. Those birds were like they hadn't eaten in years, and the more that came, the more the guy fed them
MickeyDs fries stand by Pecos Bill is DD must stop. However it seems like with more and more people feeding the birds they can get very aggressive. On more than one occasion they have flown right up and snatched them right out of the box while walking.
