Counter Service Tipping?

Think of a counter service location like a McDonald's, Burger King or Wendy's. If you don't tip the employees who work at those places you don't need to tip Cast Members working at the counter service locations, so it's something my family and I have never done.

No, there's no tipping at counter service restaurants. They're fast food - just like your local McDonald's or Burger King. You go up to the register, place your order, stand at the counter to wait, they hand you your tray, and you go off to find a table and sit down.

Thanks for the responses! My BFF was SURE there would be tip jars or something, and I told her that was not a Disney-like thing! ;)

Agreed - tipping would not be the norm and i don't recall ever seeing a tip jar anywhere. Of course, if someone was incredibly helpful or friendly I suppose you could leave a few dollars for them, but most likely they'd think you forgot it on the counter or something. :rotfl:

:wizard: I don't tip at counter service locations unless it's one of the places that takes your order and then has a server bring the food to your table. I usually leave a couple of dollars for the servers.

The only quick service location I've ever tipped at is Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney. They take your order at the counter, but there's a waiter who brings you the food. He also refilled drinks and cleared off the table for us, so we left him a tip.

I remember seeing one two years ago at the window at the Pepper Market where you walk up for coffee and pastries. It was not there last year.

Counter Service CMs are not allowed to accept tips. The protocol is to turn it down a couple of times, however, if the guest insists then you may accept BUT must turn it in to management. They claim they will either donate it to charity or put it in a pizza party fund, but I didn't believe that story so I never accepted tips. I was always flattered by the offer, though. Honestly, all you need to do is praise the CMs. They get a lot of complaints all day from guests, and never any compliments. It can really lift their spirits.

Tipping discussion isn't permitted on the main restaurant board and sub-boards. Please see the Tipping Information Thread at

As this thread is too long to merge into that thread, and the OP has gotten the answer to their question, this thread is now closed.
