I would love to know which counter service restaurants have portions large enough to split. I hate to waste food, and I would like to be able to get a few breakfasts out of our dining plan by saving credits on a few lunches. We will most likely be eating at the following:

MK: Casey's, Columbia Harbour House, Cosmic Ray's, Pecos Bill's, Pinnochio Village Haus (We will be choosing 2 or 3 of these.)

DS: Pizza Planet

AK: Flame Tree BBQ

EP: need suggestions???:confused3

Which of these places have meals that could easily be split? Either my DH and I could split an adult meal, or my DD4 and I could share an adult meal. I'd also love suggestion on CS in Epcot. Thanks!!

Unless you or the 4 yr old are large eaters, I'd say you & child can split almost every combo meal served at Disney...the portions are large everywhere (and we're big eaters...but not used to having dessert with every lunch, so that makes a difference too.) Some meals would be big enough for 2 adults to split also, depending on your appetites.

One suggestion-use your snack credits for breakfast items (either at your resort food court or in the bakeries at parks. Most resorts have some sort of fresh bakery items available for snack credits...a lot of the "sides" or individual serving items will be allowed as a snack credit...just ask before they ring it up. In the parks, if you buy right bakery items right before you leave, then keep it in cooler or room fridge it'll stay fresh for breakfast.) Or you can take breakfast bars/poptarts with you (in case you're like us & don't want to use valuable "park" time eating breakfast.:rotfl:) We actually found that most days eating "light" breakfast (like just a donut-size pastry item), then the large counter service lunches & large Disney dining dinners we rarely were hungry for snacks between meals, even with all the exercise of walking the parks.

Another tip about snack credits-many people use snack credits in the parks to buy bottled water...but you can get a free glass of ice water just for the asking at every counter service place in the parks & resorts.

As for specific restaurants...Flame Tree BBQ-the St Louis Ribs meal could definitely be split...large portions. The pulled pork sandwich is probably big enough to split also. Both of these come with side dishes & drink, as well as dessert (we like to get the frozen minute maid lemonade as our dessert...not too sweet, and it'll "keep" for 10-15 minutes until you're ready to eat it...great on a hot day.)

Cosmic Rays
-portions are large enough, for sure. Casey's--not so sure about splitting that one, those are just hotdogs (with toppings, yes, but still a hotdog is not that large of a sandwich to begin with.)

Epcot-Sunshine Seasons in the lower level of The Land building--many choices, all serving sizes are big enough for adult & child, and good desserts

Flame Tree BBQ is so yummy! The chicken is a very large portion too. I think it was 1/2 a chicken if I remember correctly! The Pizza Planet can easily be split too. The pizzas there are *individual* size, but they are very large for one person especially if you get it w/ a salad.

We used most of our snack credits for breakfast items too. :)

At Epcot, Tangierine has a chicken and lamb sharwarma platter that was definitely big enough for DH and I to split. We also split the lunch special at Kringla bakery -- I ate the soup, he ate the sandwich, we shared dessert and ordered a school bread with a snack credit to share. I drank the beverage that came with the meal, and he ordered a Carlsberg (I only got a little taste of that -- ordering my own next time!)

I think the Columbia Harbour House Fish and Chicken meal, fish meal or chicken meal are ALL plenty large enough to split. The tuna sandwich there is also quite large. I also found Pecos Bill's burgers to be enormous.

Sunshine Seasons at Epcot is my number one CS choice when DH wants "normal" food. The asian food servings are quite large as are the sandwiches. They also have sandwich/salad/soup combos (choose 2) that were more than enough for 2 adults (and we are eaters.) If your little one is picky but eats Mexican, I found Cantina de San Angel (in Mexico on the WS Lagoon) to have some pretty large plates. The Plato Combinacion was ENORMOUS (chicken taco, beef burrito, quesadilla and rice) and still came with a churro for dessert. You could get another churro with a snack credit and have more than enough for an adult and child.

You definitely won't go hungry at Epcot!

I am very blessed to have a 4 year old that will eat just about anything, so splitting my meal with her will be no problem. She also loves Mexican, Chinese, Italian......really anything. That's part of why I wanted to share with her (or share with my husband) because I know she will eat the "adult" food. But my husband is a VERY big eater (and skinny as a rail, go figure)! You just can't fill up a good 'ol country boy!:rotfl: But I figured that I could at least split with my daughter. So I guess we will save some of the kids meal credits and some snack credits for some breakfast items. We will be taking some snacks with us in the room that I can grab quick some mornings too. I just mainly didn't want to waste a lot of food. It just turns me inside out to see someone throw away a tray full of uneaten food. Such a waste. So I'd rather share and stretch out those credits. And the snack credits for breakfast are a great idea. We are not used to eating a huge breakfast anyway. We are staying at ASM so I'm sure we could get some of those quick a la carte breakfast items (with snack credits) in the food court too. Thanks for the advice.:thumbsup2

Oh, one last thing. At Pizza Planet, should we order the kids individual pizzas or the adult (since someone mentioned they were very large)? Thanks so much!

There are no kids meals at Pizza Planet. Everyone gets the same size. We're a family of four and we usually only order 3 pizzas for the four of us because the kids never eat all of theirs.

Anyone else have more tips on stretching a CS meal credit?

I've read this tip in several different places:

The CS places that sell double cheeseburgers (Pecos Bill's, Electric Umbrella, maybe others) will allow you to buy an extra bun for less than $1 and you can make 2 burgers out of 1. And most of those have toppings bars that you can use to fill each one up. I will probably do this with my daughter and let DH have his own.

I also read another great tip for kids:

Most CS places and food courts have condiments islands and some have packets of jelly and peanut butter. You can buy a bun or 2 slices of bread for very little and make them a PB&J.

Check mousesavers.com for more money saving food tips. These are just a few of the creative ideas other people have come up with on a budget.:thumbsup2

When we were at POR the only time PB was included in the bread(toast) price was at breakfast. So keep that in mind if you want to get it then and save for later.

Also when we did the extra bun with the double cheeseburger, the bun was included in the CS credit and we didn't have to pay anything for it. I didn't ask for it to be included, it just was.

HTH!

My wife and I split just about every CS meal. The portions are very large and it's easy to share just about everything. We frequently ask for a second plate and just divide up the food (cut burgers and sandwiches in half, put half a salad on the empty plate etc). No one at any CS place has ever given us a second look for asking for an empty plate.

Flame Tree BBQ is very good. Their pulled pork sandwich is delicious and comes with baked beans, cornbread and a dessert on the DDP.

Happy eating!

Not sure where you are staying, and I noticed you hadn't listed any resorts.

However if you are over at Coronado Springs the servings are gigantic!:worship:

Sandwiches at Capt. Cooks in Polly or Earl of Sand. in DTD are large enough to split.:cool1: :hippie:
