Counter Service Meals at resorts

Hi,
Hubby and I are visiting WDW in less than 10 days (YAY) and we have the free quick service dining plan. So, I am looking for decent food in a nice atmosphere in other resorts than our value resort. Any favorite places to get good counter service meals outside the parks or Downtown Disney? Is it possible to find something besides the usual burger/pizza/salad/sandwiches? And how difficult it is to navigate to other resorts (and back) from a value resort using Disney transportation? We are also looking for ideas for evening entertainment after the parks are closed. We are on a tight budget, so I prefer it as low cost as possible. Thanks!

The Pepper Market at Coronado Springs is very good. They have different stations of food to choose from. You place your order at the station you want and then the server brings it to you. The food is good and there's several choices. Most people speak very highly of the Earl of Sandwich in DTD. I think also that Wolfgang Puck's has a counter service too.

To get from one resort from another you have to use a park or DTD as a transfer. So you can take a bus from your resort to the closest park and then get in line for the bus to the resort you want to go to. Keep in mind that this process could take up to an hour between travel and waiting for buses.

you can go into any WDW site and pull up dining and print out all menus or allears.net also has great one to print out.

DTD: Wolf gang Pucks Express or Earl of Sandwich
Pleasure Island: you will have your $15.00 for Planet Hollywood (good for appetizer and get a soda)
Magic Kingdom: Caseys Corner
Animal Kingdom: Tusker House lunch or Flame tree BBQ
Epcot: new just opened LaCatina across from Mexico
In the land is Seasons and they have good selection of CS
Hollywood Studios:Have several CS all around the park

Port Orleans: food court they saying has a great pasta bar now that is CS
Grand Floridian: has great food court CS

Contemporary and Poly also have good CS

also can upgrade to have TS once a day for $100 each but would probably be hard to get ressies this late...good luck and there is a lot of good CS and not eat just hot dogs and burgers or pizza...:

I 2nd the recommendation for POR's make-your-own pasta and mae-your-own salad. The pasta is easily enough for two people to share. Also, the atmosphere at POR is very nice. Certain nights Piano Bob performs in the bar and it is open to families. You don't have to buy anything to listen to him perform. If you search Piano Bob Port Orleans Riverside, you can find out about his schedule.

At CSR, great variety and huge amounts of food for your CS credit.

Also the Golden Oak at MK.
Yak @ Yeti CS at AK.
I like Electric Umbrella at EPCOT(A lot of people don't).
Most of the country's at WS have yummy carts or CS areas.

Pepper Market - we took the bus from AK to eat here and then walked back to ASSp (it took about 20 min. which was less than bus transferring)

WPE - definitely plan on this, just the bus ride to DTD (its near the stop)

POR - little more inconvenient as you have to transfer a bus or take the boat from DTD. We were there last month and they only had the make your own pasta (which was excellent). I didn't see the salad.

The monorail resorts each have CS which are a little more convenient to get to, but we didn't eat at any of them so I can't comment on the food.

My niece and I are doing the same thing. Staying at pop on the quick service plan. We will be eating at the yakatori house in Japan at epcot and china has lotus blossom. This will be a little more variety. We will also eat at either Polynesian or contemporary. On a day we are at the magic kingdom. We will take the monorail from there then back to mk where we get the bus to the pop. As far as evening entertainment on a budget we are going to the boardwalk one night. You can take the bus from your resort to epcot or Hollywood studios and walk to the boardwalk. Hope that helps

As mentioned WPE is an incredible place to eat. It is similar in quality to a TS restaurant. You could go several times and not eat the same thing. They have a great menu and IMO, it's the best CS place on site.

Look over on the dining review board there are a couple of QSDP reviews that will show you that you can eat for a week or more without having burgers and fries on that plan.
