Hello all!

We're staying at VWL for the first time in October:banana:, and I'm wondering what the counter service options are. Is there anything in the villas section, or just in the Lodge section?

TIA!

All dining is in the main lodge. The counter service location is call Roaring Fork.

It is one of our favorite CS locations - we think the food is very good.

Glad to read the above post, as we are staying there as well for the first time this June.

I like the sandwiches and salads on the cold side. The hot side is the usual burgers, chicken strips fare.

Roaring Forks is an above-average CS. Their are some quality sandwiches and salads, as well as the grill for hot items. It's close to the main pool, and just a ramp walk down from the main lobby. Some people feel the walk to RF from the Villas section is too long, but I actually enjoy taking in the sights along the way. Sometimes, I venture through the main lobby; other times, I head out the back door of the Villas and head over via the Hidden Springs pool/main pool route. Either way, I like the relaxing feel of the WL, in general, and especially the Villas section, in particular. ;)

They also have flatbreads (cheese and pepperoni and often a special) and one other special hot fare a night such as pasta.

And the desserts! Magic bars - Mmmmmmm! And great cupcakes.

It's also our favorite CS at the Deluxe/DVC resorts.

If you're a fan of vanilla cupcakes be sure to have one there. It is loaded with vanilla icing and colored sprinkles - oh so yummy.

They do a good breakfast platter there too. It's a great place to get a quick hot breakfast.

We enjoyed it too. My only complaint is it is quite small and gets very crowded at busy times. We often went and got food and took it back to our rooms as seating was sometimes a problem. If you hit it when it is not busy it is great. My family really enjoyed the sandwiches.

They have good food especially the sandwiches & flatbread pizzas. I get magic Bars several times on every trip. There is seating outside as well, but be warned. The birds are very aggressive. Last year we had a room overlooking the outside seating area and saw a toddler eating french fries. A bird flew right into his face and took it out of his mouth/hand. There are warnings posted not to feed the wildlife, but of course people do, and anything that drops onto the ground is snatched up almost immediately.

Thanks for describing how to get there from the villas-it sounds wonderful. This is our first trip to VWL and I can't wait! People ask me all the time, "how can you always be excited to go back to Disney World...again?" Because there's always something new and different while at the same time the old favorites usually remain.

You don't by chance have a photo of the Magic bars or the cupcakes? What's in the bars? Not that it really matters-all desserts are A-OK with me :thumbsup2

You're welcome. I might add that for either route you take, the walk isn't actually long at all. WL is not a huge resort to begin with, and even at the farthest end of the Villas hallways, I can leave my room and make it to RF in less than five minutes easily, including waiting on the elevator. Meanwhile, you get to either stroll along the covered walkway between the main lodge and the Villas (at night, the lamps flicker) and take in the grandeur of the lobby, or you can watch kids (and adults) playing in the pools, perhaps catch the geyser and see a bunny or two. Though they're way too small, I even like to see the "wildlife" footprints in the sidewalks. Have fun!

I'm with you sleepy dog! I also enjoy hearing the music they play at the lodge... I can remember hearing it outside and watching the lights flicker and the trees around me - over by the villa pool. I love the WL loop of songs....so relaxing.
