Looking for some insight on what the counter service food is like at the Polynesian Resort

Is there a large selection, as much so as the Value Resort Food Courts?

Positives/negatives about it (vs. value resort food!)

Capt Cookes is one of my favorite places. They offer the standard burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc. They also have pulled pork, sushi, and dole whips. It is also nice to sit outside and dine as the Poly has beautiful lush landscaping. You really cannot go wrong with the place as it has a little something for everyone there.

Hi! We loved Captain Cooks on our Oct. trip. The breakfast offerings were really good, especially the tonga toast! No complaints here.:thumbsup2

Can't compare it to Value food courts as I have not eaten there, but I can compare it to food in the parks. Now - I like burgers, and I like fixings bars, and I have always been fine with lunch at Pecos Bill. But never again will I have a burger there when I can take the monorail or launch to the Poly and have the Poly Pulled Pork sandwich with fresh house-made potato chips and a Dole Whip twist for dessert.

None of the deluxe resorts will offer any kind of counter service that compares in scope and size to the food courts of the values. CCs is a "counter service restaurant," not in any way resembling, not trying to resemble a food court.

That said, we love it! They offer enough variety for our family, with unique items that have a bit of a pacific flair (like Hawaiian flatbread, Aloha pork sandwich, Asian noodle bowl) while still offering the staples of burgers, dogs and chicken nuggets. If you go in expecting food court variety, you will be disappointed.

We've had some good items and some not so good ones at CC. I would return, however, for the Pork Nachos! They don't look great but they do taste so. And the Dole Whip is yummy!

I must be in the minority here, but, we are not too fond of captain cook's. It is overpriced and portions are small. $8 for a grilled cheese, and $9 for a few pieces of imitation crab on rice just doesn't do it for me.

We just got back from our first week at the Poly.

I was hesitant about Captain cooks from the menu and from some reviews.

Well we wound up eating there 3 or 4 times and the food was much better and appealing to me than I expected.

We had burgers (not bad, fast foodish but the bun was extra good IMO). I had the adult grilled cheese (I didnt omit any ingredients) and it was GOOD, I was so surprised! The chips that I got with it were not good though....soggy....should have been crispy IMO. DD had a grilled cheese for kids and fries....a few times, it was very good IMO for a kids grilled cheese. DH had the pulled pork sandwich and that was good (he omitted all but the cheese and bbq sauce and pork). Still good.

I had a salad (which I was annoyed b/c it was on the bottom of the freezer and I didnt see it the first few times!!!) A good prepackaged small salad. I also had a tray of crudites that they had in the fridge, celery and carrots with ranch dressing, very tasty. Hmmm...what else? Oh, the flatbread pepperoni pizza...very good. We also ordered room service pizza at 11pm on our packing night...with sausage. It was hot and good, think Dominos though.

We had the rice crispy treats, muffins, bagels (just ok), yogurt, drinks and coffee every am< cookies, all good. And how can I forget the Dole Whip? Very tasty but IMO def do the vanilla/pineapple swirl. Too much pineapple if you dont mix the two. But very tasty, DH and DD loved it.

Overall, there was a good amt of choices IMO and I wasnt bored eating there 4 times for lunch/dinner.

Now I have never stayed at a value but have heard their food courts rock. I did stay at CBR about 12 yrs ago and recall that food court being much better than Captain Cooks. But that was a long time ago so I cant say now.

Def one of our favorite counter service restaurants. The pulled pork sandwiches are so good, and as stated before they have Dole Whip. We stayed at the Poly last time and ate there often. This year, we will definitely be stopping by for lunch even thiguh we are staying at Bay Lake.
