Are there any good counter service places at the Studios?? We have counter service favorites at all of the other parks, but have not had anything very good at MGM....I thought I read somewhere that they had revised the menus at a couple of places?? Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks.

As you already know, MGM is kind of dry in the food department. The only counter service place that we like there is the Backlot Express, which I actually find to be pretty tasty. I also think Pizza Planet is decent, but it seems that I'm in the minority on this one. Happy Eating!

We eat at Pizza Planet, too. Don't care for any of the other CS places (that Rosie's is down-right nasty!).

I like the Turkey sandwich at Backlot Express. The new menu at Studios Catering looks pretty good. It's Mediterannean, they had a chicken wrap, greek salad, gyro wrap maybe

Backlot Express is good. I like the Cuban sandwich at the ABC Comissary. Pizza Planet is good, good pizza and it's just a fun place to eat. Also Starring Rolls Bakery is a good place to pick up something quick for breakfast. I highly recommend the chocolate muffins. :earsboy:

We always go to Backlot Express if we aren't going to the Brown Derby for lunch. It's decent food and a cold place to relax.

Mmm...Studio Catering Co. just reopened and it was soooo good. I've been thinking about those wraps for 2 weeks now since we had them. We all got the kids meal of grilled chicken wrap, and they come on like a pita bread that is really good. The chicken had excellent flavor, as did the bread, and the sauce they put on it. It was really excellent counter service...one of my favorites. The kid's meal came with apples and caramel sauce and a drink, but you can get other things too...they had lots and lots of choices.

The Studios really needs a GOOD counter service restaurant! Maybe something made to look like a behind the scenes "craft service" type thing? Even cafeteria style.
Anyway, I used to love  the egg rolls outside the Chinese Theatre before that hideous Mickey hat went up and they "mistappeared" as my nephew says. (lol) :sad2: The kids chicken nuggets and fried from the commissary weren't bad. French fries from Rosie's were great, though the burger was just okay. Needed a lot of ketchup, which isn't a good sign. And Pizza Planet pizza! Ick. Wilted salad and cardboardy pizza (I'm in NJ, 15 minutes from Manhattan, and 5 minuters from the BEST pizza (Denino's in Staten Island! ) so I guess my standards are high!) I still prefer to eat in a sit down here. Though, they are opening or have recently opened (not sure) the new Studio Catering Co. which might be better. I'd say check the menu there and if it appeals to you, try it. If not, go for a simple hard to screw up thing like fries or chicken nuggets. That said, I prefer real food. If you can afford the time, even a burger or sandwich from Sci Fi or Prime Time would be *much* more satisfying! Good luck!

Definitely the Backlot Express. I had a wrap there that was amazingly good. And dh had a bowl of chicken and rice that was awesome. We were impressed.

We were anything BUT impressed with Rosie's All-American Cafe. That place is NASTY! The cheeseburgers are extremely tasteles and dry -- they tasted like they had been pounded to a pulp, freeze-dried to get rid of any flavor, and then re-heated in a microwave. I've had generic tofu burgers that had more flavor/taste. Ugh, double ugh and triple ugh. Stay away at all costs!!!

Backlot Express was good, but if you like middle eastern food, try Studio Catering Co. There are lots of kids choices. I had a good Greek salad. DS had a terrific chicken stew with saffron rice...we couldn't believe he got that at a theme park counter service restaurant. Yummy.

I like Tuluca Leg Turkey Co...footlong hotdogs and chips (they also have turkey legs if you're so inclined...but I'm not!!). Simple, filling, and not a lot of room for error. Grab some fruit from the little stand next door (name escapes me), and you have a quick, filling meal in under 20 minutes. Oh, and add an ice cream cone from the stand on the other side! :teeth:

Out of all the pizza my DS had in the World - and that I sampled, we all felt like Pizza Planet had the best pizza. We didn't try any other CS at MGM.

Thanks for the replies...I guess we will decide between Backlot and Studio Catering....new menu sounds interesting....thanks for pointing it out.
