I was surprised to learn that WDW changed the name of the attraction "Countdown to Extinction". When was the name changed to "Dinosaur"? Why the name change?:earsboy:

It was changed about 2 years ago!... Probably because of the Movie "Dinosaur"!

It is also less intense now. It is still a great ride, but I preferred the original (even tho I am a ride chicken).

Are there other ride chickens out there? I love visiting WDW but I still am scared to go on "Space Mountain", "Tower of Terror", "Test Track","Splash Mountain", "Indiana Jones" (in Disneyland) as well as "Mission Space". I know I am being silly but I can't help it. Years ago, I got very sick on a coaster.I feel I'll get sick and be embarrassed. My friends have to ride without me. I finally got the courage to go on "Star Tours" which I always avoided and had a great time! The anticipation was worse than the ride! Maybe one day!

I'm sort of a ride chicken. I really don't like rides that 'leave' the ground. But, that said...I hate 'Dinosaur' a lot. Waaay to rough and loud. I'm one of the few people that doesn't like Primevil Whirl. There is just something about it on one or two drops that just sickens me. But.....I love Test Track, BTMRR, Mission Space, RnRC. And I ride Splash Mt because it's a tradition and I'm actually getting used to it!! Took me 3 trips before I would ride Space Mt. but love it now. But, after riding ToT last August and thinking it was okay, I rode it again in Dec and was terrified!! Seems the sequencing is different each time and I got a real 'good' one in Dec. Well, never again for this girl!! No way, no how.

The name was always intended to be changed when the movie was released. I was opening crew for that attractions and from day one they told us that it was Countdown To Extinction because the movie was not out and people did not know "Dinosaur". That as soon as the movie was released it would be changed to it's official name of Dinosaur. It was about 4 or 5 months after we opened that they added the movie footage to the pre-show and then the name change came just after the movie was released.
