Countdown to 200,000 DIS Members

As it stands at the moment, there are 198,747 disboard.com members. Thinking that 200,000 members is a pretty cool thing to observe, I did a very unscientific "calculation" as to when the 200,000th member is likely to sign up.

Knowing the tolerance for math explanations is pretty low, I'll just say that my latest estimate is that the DIS should reach 200,000 members around 12/2/08 at 1:19 pm. (That is obvioulsy subject to change.) If you want to follow along and/or check my calculation, pm me and I'll e-mail you the spreadsheet.

I sure will look stupid if they talked about this on today's podcast. . . . and go ahead and say it, I have way too much time on my hands.

As of today (at 6:30 pm EST), the current estimate is 200,000 will be reached at 7:36 am on 12/2/2008.

I started averaging days to give a slightly more "accurate" estimate.

It would be nice to see 200,000 before Pete's birthday.

Sorry, Mindy, I was in a meeting most of the day.

I guess I should say that I set up the spreadsheet to give me 24 hour totals as of 6:30 pm each day. (There isn't anything magic about that time of day, it is just when I happened to make the first record of the membership number.) I keep track of it during the day as time permits but it isn't very accurate - heck, it isn't all that accurate right now. (Which is, Kelly, about the way I manage checking accounts given to me to balance so don't count your millions just yet.)

I'll do an "official" estimate (if there is such a thing) after 6:30. So far, we seem, however, to be gradually slipping but not by much more than a day so far. I expect memberships to pick up over the weekend and holidays so it could be sooner rather than later.

Of course, if you could put some pressure on Will to send me several months worth of historically accurate membership numbers (not sure what that would be) I could maybe sort-of come up with a closer guess.
