We did a countdown chain for our sons first trip to WDW - he was 6 at the time.

We are planning a trip Easter 2014 to WDW whcih he has no idea about making a Disney box up for him to open Christmas morning the box will include a countdown chain - although this time I will have to make it myself with no help from DS but hope the surprise is worth it.
