Not sure if this is even the right place to post this? But every year I do a countdown calendar when we are 30 days out, I use post its and heavy duty construction paper and Disney Stickers of course. Fiance came home with 32 Mickey Mouse head paint samples from Home Depot for me the other day and now I was wondering what kind of countdown calendar I could make with them. If you have any pics, please share, thanks!

I've never posted a photo before...I guess that I've been too intimidated or maybe just lazy.:rolleyes1 Anyway, since I do have a photo for you, I'm going to go read the Sticky about how to post and give it a whirl!!! It might take me a bit because I have to dig up my Photobucket password (I haven't used it since 2007). Wish me luck! :wizard:

Thanks, Good Luck!
Its pretty easy, once logged into photobucket, click on the photo and then on the lower left side i believe there are all codes that you could copy and paste, I use the one that has the letters IMG in front of it, click on that, copy and paste it right on here.

Drats... For some reason when I preview the picture here it keeps showing up JUMBO size. Let me keep messing with it. Of course, I don't want to build this photo up to be something fantastic, but I really want to figure this out.

Good lord! I knew that this wouldn't be easy for me.:sad2:

For some reason, it kept showing up as a enormous photo so I decided to try another photo in my album (I only have 5). Would you believe that it keeps previewing as the same Jumbo photo? No matter which IMG that I highlight, when I post here on the DIS, I keep getting the same original JUMBO countdown calendar photo. Any ideas about what could be causing this? :confused3

I'm not really sure, there used to be a resizing option on top of the photo, not sure if they still have that?

This is awesome! Everytime I see those Mickey paint swatches in Home Depot, I want to take one of each home to do something crafty with them!

Now I have the perfect idea!!

Problem solved, but I had get my DH to come in from the yard and figure it out. There was some problem with my Photobucket and it wouldn't release the original photo from the clipboard.

Anyway...here's my old countdown calendar. I had two posterboard Mickey's sandwiched together and then I used an Xacto blade to cut windows which were numbered (like an Advent calendar). My son would peel off a star sticker to release the window flaps, and behind each window was a Disney image of the day. I just used google images of all of our favorite characters. Behind the final window was Mickey in front of the castle. :wizard:
Thanks for inspiring me to finally post a photo, but now I have a headache!!!

Fiance is a manager at Home Depot and I was asking for a few weeks now to get me some of those Mickey chips. He came home last week and said, "I got the stuff!" I was like...what the **** are you talking about?!?!?! :scared1: He took out the stack of Mickey paint chips and I was like WOoooHoooo! LOL

Here's the one I made this year...be warned...take a few nights to cut out the heads...your hands will cramp up.

hi there! I made my first calendar just this week with the paint samples - I used the whole samples and did not cut the heads out. Under each paint sample I put a picture of something that we'll be seeing/doing while down in Disney. Since this is my kids first trip I wanted to familiarize the kids with one of the stuff we'll be seeing down there. So each day when we pull off a chip we'll be able to talk about that particular ride/place/show that is in the picture!

So here is what it looks like now, with all of the pictures covered:

And as we start pulling them off:

I also printed out the numbers using the Disney font and just punched them out using a circle punch and stuck them on the paint chips.

I make luggage tags with my paint chip samples. I carefully peal the Mickey head from the backing and then I glue it to another Mickey head. Write my last name on one side and my phone # on the other. Then I mac tac (laminate) it together. I punch a hole between Mickey's ears and add the string.

All of those great calendars have officially inspired me! Off to home depot tomorrow.

Wow MommyMcQueen! That countdown calendar is beautiful! I love how the photos are revealed as you remove each day! Beautiful!

No pictures, but I'll try to describe in words how we use them. We use a big piece of bright colored posterboard and we start the countdown at 45 days out. We divide up the posterboard and write the number of days left in each large 'square' on the calendar. In the corner of each box is a smaller squared off area where we write the date. We peel off the Mickey heads carefully and use those to cover the X we make on the number of days left each day. We then use a Disney sticker to cover the date on same square.

I hope that makes sense! :lmao:
