Well, we live in a street where it used to be all council houses but the majority of them are now bought (including mine).

Anyhoo, next door is getting a new roof fitted which I don't have a problem with at all. But basically we had a visit from the council yesterday, when I was at work, more or less telling me wife they need access anytime they please. I don't have a problem with giving them access but it's their attitude towards the whole thing.

They cam back today and have told me they'll need to take down one of my fencing panels so they can get scaffolding in and also put part of the scaffolding on my decking!

What makes it worse is the people that are doing the roofing are stupid -in-their-late-teens boys. So not only am I going to have my garden a disaster area, i'll have to deal with these guys going back and forward.

Not happy to say the least!

I would have taken a photo of my garden before incase they end up ruining/destroying anything whilst they are doing it.
Ihope they don't make too much of a mess!

Thanks

I've been out all morning taking photos of everything from all different angles.

maybe go to the council and ask them to come and inspect your garden before the work starts as well as the photos. This way you will hopefully have someone you can contact if anything goes wrong and perhaps ask for a visit during the work as well as a follow up one. If the workers think a superior could visit at any time tehy are more likely to work better. Also ask for a timescale on how long it should take

If you own your property they can't "make" you do anything? :confused3

I agree abut the photos - make sure that it's left exactly as it's found and remember you're doing them a huge favour.

Good luck

I think it's in my deeds that I need to give them access.

I agree with the photos.

It probably isnt the Council doing this work but it will have been subcontracted. The programme is known as "Decent Homes". Most Council housing isnt owned by the Council anymore and may be with a housing association.

Personally I would complain to the Council Housing Department/Housing Association rather than the contractor as this will have more weight.

I know where I work there are consultation events and letters/leaflets sent out explaining what is going to happen and help to answer and questions etc before the works start.

Yeah we got a letter back in April basically stating that by law we have to give access to the workers. It's not the council as they don't come in vans. I would speak to the council anyway before speaking to them.

Well they've obviously been out in our back garden this morning as the grass has all been trampelled and there's bits of wood that have been pulled off the fence.
