Couldn't get Slinky FP today

We're going the second week of September-not sure I want to even TRY for SDD! We are actually hoping Runaway Railroad is open and offered in the same tier so MAYBE we can get a fast pass for one of the two! Also planning on arriving an hour early, hoping everyone else heads to Galaxy's Edge first thing in the morning, and we can hop in a shorter line for one of these two! We will be watching closely for posted opening times and watching this board for what actually happens the first week of GE opening! I hope OP can snag one closer to time!

I get why people are frustrated with all of the “premium events” that effect park time for those who can’t afford them. I get frustrated everytime WDW comes out with something that looks awesome only to see over a 100.00 per person tag attached. We are a family of 5 so it really adds up. A 5 day vacation in 2010 with free dining cost me 1700.00 that same vacation now costs me over 4000.00 and I get shorter park hours and longer lines. My kids are in the teen/tween age so that bumps up the price but the other is simple inflation on tickets/resorts etc.
That being said I get supply and demand. Disney is more crowded now than it has ever been. The more they charge the more people come so let’s give you smaller lines but it is going to cost you. If I was doing a smaller trip like I did over Christmas I would do nothing but after hours events or parties of some kind but I get it is not feasible when I have already paid 500.00 a person for a 5-7 day ticket. I can’t imagine going to Disney and packing lunches and having to worry about the price of food but I get that some do that why I dine at TS everyday. I guess you have to decide what is most important to you.

I agree. All the paid events are awesome and help with crowds but the price is crazy. We are spending 7k on a weeks vacation for 5 of us and I didnt plan on having to add EMM in order to get on SDD without waiting forever or dealing with RD chaos. I am doing EMM but I cant afford DAH because its so much more expensive and we already have 6 day hoppers and it counts as an extra admission ticket. Just crazy how much things cost now. We went 5 years ago and we paid have this much and did the same tickets and dining plan. We have to do dining plan because I dont want the added stress of worrying about the cost of food and deciding if we can afford a specific meal. But I am a sucker and a disney addict so Im their target audience. :)

Plan your HS day for later in your trip and go on first thing to book FP+ and you may have luck. I am hoping Mickeys Runaway Railway opens by mid-August so we can experience that as well. But Im not counting on them having FP+ available for it to book by our FP+ day in June. But you may be right about everyone flocking to SWGE at RD instead of SDD. That may help!

I understand it for things that cause them to close early like the holiday parties. I was frustrated too last October. We did do MNSSHP ( never again, ridiculously crowded), but trying to plan another MK day and having to choose between going when they closed early or going on a non party day when I knew crowds would be much worse was a pain. Party seasons are getting longer and longer. They affect park hours and just as importantly, crowd levels.

DAH and MM’s do neither except that it may slightly reduce FP demand for headliners. To not want Disney to offer them because one can’t afford to buy them makes no sense at all to me. Could Disney extend hours for free? Sure, but then instead of a relaxed few hours of not standing in long lines, youd just have more hours in a crowded park. Being frustrated at the price tag I get. Not wanting anyone else to be able to do it, I don’t get. Feeling like you’re a second class citizen because you don’t do them I really don’t get.

It is a matter of priorities as you say. We rarely do sit down dining anymore for lots of reasons, but mostly it’s because I prefer to spend my money on other things. One character meal almost pays for a MM. I cut the cost of a dessert buffet by skipping dinner- that cuts the price by half at least. MM’s include all you can eat breakfast, DAH includes all the snacks and drinks you can eat. We do qs, share meals or buy kids meals and spend a fraction of what we use to spend on food. What law says a churro isn’t breakfast and popcorn and a Mickey bar aren’t dinner? lol

I was able to get slinky... but not until 630 pm... and that messes up our day.... not sure what to do.... same with FOP.... thinking of rope dropping those??? otherwise it cuts into dinner reservations we have and messes up our park hopping plan....

What days of the year did everyone have luck or not? I would think if it is a peak season or an emh day, the ability to get one would vary. We definitely had better luck on non-emh days and during lower crowd times in years past.

The DAH bothered me at first too but when I looked at how they really didn’t decrease hours and it’s one night a week, I don’t think it really has a significant impact. The events that close down the park at 7 really bother me. I won’t go during a party season and it seems like HS is always having some private event or something.

Disney is going to get more expensive and less accessible to make way for upcharges until attendance goes down. At least we get to vote with our pocketbooks. Like everything else.

I will probably scrimp elsewhere to make at least one DAH happen.

I agree that Disney will most likely be charging more and more in the future for what is now free. On our trip last week we were blessed enough to pay for a before park opening breakfast at the Garden Grill and we bought tickets to EMM at the MK. Both of these helped us tremendously with getting rides on Soarin, Frozen, SDMT, PP and others. It was awesome and very expensive. We only had to pay for me, my husband and one teen. If we had to pay for 3 or more kids, ouch!!!

But I am so glad we did do them. I am so glad we were blessed enough to cover the cost. It will be harder in the future as I believe the free fast passes we get today, could possibly cost a pretty penny in the future. But my love for Disney and the parks was really renewed with this last trip. I am now reconsidering buying another very small DVC contract.

Never fear! You want to grab any time you can get for a "hard to get", then the night before or morning of your park visit, modify...modify...modify. Already having a FP for the date & ride you want will greatly increase the # of modifies you can click in a minute, as you won't have to scroll down to find your ride. There will be a lot of FP reshuffling going on during these times, move yours up & up (sometimes only 5 minutes at a time), until one fits your schedule. Keep all your other plans as-is no need to change, the FP will fall in line with what you want...only later.

How many people can be on the same login booking FP’s?
I'm not sure you can log in with the same id on two different computers- we have a linked party and when we have ever logged in to the same account- we have issues so we didn't even try it for FP.
Our accounts are linked so we each logged into our separate accounts at FP time and one of use went for SDD while the other went for FOP- it worked and we got both.

It frustrates me for as much as we pay to stay on property its not good enough to obtain the attractions we seek.

There are just too many people who all want the same rides. We all want to go on the newest rides. Disney makes new rides, new lands, etc., but then more people show up to experience the new offerings, and it's a vicious circle. No matter how many new things they add, everyone's always going to want the new things. :-/

Your last line sums it up perfectly for me. We all have to decide what is more important to us. We are planning a trip for next year that is costing us an amount that is very high for us. And we're doing some extra events. BUT, we're staying at a value resort, eating all but two meals either in room or at QS locations, plus, we've been waiting years and years for this trip. So yes, we're spending a lot of extra money on those events, because as mentioned, those events for a family can be very steep, but we are giving up other things to be able to those events. So I don't really feel like someone going to the event is somehow making anyone else a second-class citizen. I'm sure many of those folks are a lot like us and are giving up other things or going to WDW far less often to begin with. :)

It's really hard to try to plan around both ADRs and FPs sometimes. I hope things work out and you can find new times or that you're able to alter your plans a bit to accommodate the times you've found so far. Good luck!!

I get why you do them. I would also if I didn’t already have a 7 day ticket. I would prefer the evening EMH. I went on a small trip last year and we did the Christmas Party versus a regular day at MK. If after hours would have veen offered then I would have done that instead. I was only doing a 2day park trip last year so it wasn’t a difference in cost for the Christmas Party it wasn’t something I was adding on. I think the original posters frustration with it is the morning EMM because they feel RD is no longer an “even playing field” so to speak since people are already in the park so there may already be a line for SDD prior to RD.

If that’s the OP’s concern he/she shouldn’t really be concerned. Conventional wisdom is that MM’s don’t really affect crowd levels at rope drop. The number attending is comparatively small, those attending MM are done and getting out of TSL by rope drop. If there’s any effect from MM, it’s that it reduces the number rushing to TSL at rope drop. Regardless, the effect is minimal by all reports.

I know once I booked our MM, I cancelled the FP’s I had for SDD. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I'm going in September as well. It's amazing how much can chance in less than two months. No Runaway Railway and now 6AM opening. I'm thinking we will have to ride SDD right before closing.
