Could you still enjoy WDW....

I am a CM and I spend 1, if not both, of my days off every week in the parks - usually 2 or 3 parks per week. Granted, I am not actually *in* a park, I think that might change the magic for me. I meet hundreds of Guests every day and it makes magic for me to see them so excited about their visit!!

So far working for the company hasn't had any effect on my perspective of the magic... well unless you count my wallet!

I did the CP and it didn't effect my enjoyment in the least. Perhaps it's because I was fortunate enough to be places in a great area where my coworkers were all such fun, nice, lovable people and my managers were a blast. Most of the guests I came across were equally pleasant, and the ones that weren't I just didn't let them get to me. In fact, everytime a grouchy guest gave me a rough time, the other guests around were quick to jump in and make me laugh it off as soon as the person left. So never underestimate how much power YOU have while you're on vacation to give some of that magic back.

It also helped that I worked at MGM. Unlike the MK, the characters stay in character even backstage, I assume since the 'backstage' area would be so EASILY accessable by guests since all you have to do is walk around a wall, or at least peek around it (I'm sure most of you have heard about the headless characters in the Utilidors, LOL) Nearly everyday walking to and from work I'd pass various characters who would wave or greet me, just like I was a regular guest, haha.

To me, the time I spent backstage was just a chance to learn those little 'secrets' that everyone discusses with such interest here on the boards. People pay a decent amount of money for tours that I got to 'do' every day walking to and from work.

I worked at a Disney store, while it's not the same thing I think working at WDW would be magic in it's own way. My favorite thing at the store was the joy and excitement from the little ones! There are couple that really stand out.
My dream is to retire and work there, even just seasonally.

If I lived a tad closer I would work there....my dear sister was in entertainment so she told me everything anyway and it in no way ruined any of the magic for me!! I think more of the guests do that!

I worked there for about 18 months and continued with the Disney Store for another 10 years. I can't wait to retire from my "real job" and go back to work for the Mouse!

When I was a WDW CM, I used to get a kick out of looking behind the magic whenever I was in the park on my day off. For example, I used to ride the Skyway and crane my neck to see the Cast Member parking lot. But for the most part, the behind-the-scenes stuff really does stay offstage and I was always able to enjoy the park just like a regular guest whenever I'd go on my day off.

If DH and I do work there as planned after we retire, I just know the hypothetical grandchildren will be more than eager to come visit us!

working at MK made disney even better for me. As a cm you get to be there when no one else is and it makes it seem like all of disney is there just for you.
It's safe to say that workring at disney has only made me a bugger disney freak

Personally I don't think I could. It would be like when you go to work for a restaurant where you really like the food. You would kind of get sick of serving it all the time and it wouldn't be your favorite food anymore.

I worked as a waitress for 2 years and it took me 4 years to even go back and eat at that restaurant again.

I guess I would rather have the magic from the outside.

Both DH and I were CM's and it definitely makes the magic stronger. We love going back every year and will continue to do so. I would also give anything to go back and work at WDW and be back in the magic. Also, like a previous poster said, we spent most of our days off in the parks too.

Oh yes!! I worked at the MK, and I still love going. In fact, I want to work there full-time! I don't think I could ever stop loving Disney.

It seems to deepen the magic. You see it on a different (not better, just different) level. Some things change for the better, some not, but ultimately knowing the parks in a way that goes beyond the straightforward 'guest experience' makes it even more magical than ever.

I'm only in 8th grade but, when I go to college, I would love to possibly be a part of the internship program during the summer. I just love going to Disney and I think it would be a great summer job...the only problem I would have is being so far away from my family.

There's no way I could work at WDW and still feel the magic. I'm the type that gets bored to easily. Seeing it day after day would just make it feel ho hum.

Last week while standing in line for Mickeys autograph in Epcot, we started to talk to the couple behind us. I would say they were in there early to mid 60's and after a few minutes and questions we found out that they both work in the park.
I told them I was SO impressed that they worked there and still stand in line to see Mickey !!

I love the charactores and i dont know if i would like knowing who was in there. But I think I could work there and still love it.
