OK,I'll admit it...I'm starting to feel a little guilty about taking the kids to WDW for 90% of our vacations, so I'm considering broadening their horizons by taking them to VB:lmao: We have a 9 day trip to SSR/BC next April and are thinking of spending the first or last 2-3 days at VB. We know NOTHING about the resort or area. Kids are 10 and 12. Could you please share any info about activities, restaurants, etc. ? TIA

Hi there...
Can't tell you at this point what VB is like, but we are going in a couple of weeks, so if you still want info then... well I'll give you all you can use!

:thumbsup2 Vero Beach is very relaxing, the beach is right there and also the pool. There are lots of activities for kids and plenty of good places to each in the area. We all enjoyed Shutters too. VB doesn't have the fast pace of WDW but if you are looking to relax in a beach setting, you will love VB.

we absolutely love vero. it's so relaxing. the beach is nice, the pool is nice. :) there are a bunch of really good restaurants in vero and sebastian. they have a mini golf course by the pool which is pretty fun. :) plenty of activities for kids, you can tour the power plant which is actually pretty cool. (dd was 10 when we did that and she actually thought it was pretty cool)

They have a nice pool & Lighthouse themed waterslide, a hot jet pool, miniature golf, exercise room, ping pong, bike rentals, The Green Cabin Room (bar/restaurant) has 2nd floor covered deck that has a fantastic view of the ocean and is a nice place to relax with your favorite beverage. It also has live entertainment in the evenings. On some nights they have a campfire / s’more roast. You can rent a small catamaran or jet-ski for ocean fun. Across the street they have a lake and nature trail, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney built a private tunnel under the road to access this area. Everything in the resort is no more than a 2 minute walk from anywhere else, so you can you can break up the day easily moving from beach to the pool to the room and back.

Normally, I would recommend trying to stay at the end of the vacation to have some unwind time, but April can be an iffy month as far a temps are concerned, and if it is on the cold side it will limit the desire to use the pool or go into the ocean, which may be a downer. Early April vs. late April will make a huge difference in the likelihood of colder temps.

Five minutes away is Pelican Island and a wildlife education center. Also minutes away is Sebastian Inlet were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour away is Cape Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center with museums, exhibits tours, and shows, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours.

Hope you have a wonderful time. :beach:

DD8 and DH both rated the VB potion of our most recent WDW trip as their favorite part (and DD had a broken arm and could not even swim). Even, DS10, a disney-park-a-holic who claims he'll grow up to be an Imaginner and then "the next Walt Disney" says one of the things he is most looking forward to is going back to VB.

DS loved body surfing, the pool, the campfire. DD loved the children's activities, shells and seeing sea turtles. We used the kid's discovery program one night and DH and I had a date. Both kids loved getting surprised with room service Mickey pancakes one morning! The CMs at VB (especially the ones that deal with the kids) are absolutely incredible.

We loved it so much that we are going back for 5 days this year. I agree that VB at the end or in the middle of your Disney vacation is a great plan - that way you can relax and enjoy the quiet beauty of the beach without being antsy to hit the excitement of the parks.

The beautiful beach:
