We are DVC members and typically travel to Disney every other year, our last trip being November 2015. I was looking at our school calendar for 2015-2016 (DD5 and I are both in the same district) and we have a 4 day weekend the first weekend of Oct. For fun, I looked up airfare from 9/30-10/4 and can get round trip for $120/per person. I feel like this is unheard of and we should jump on it. Being DVC members we have points available and in the interest of being conservative I would get a studio as opposed to our usual 1 bedroom.

DH is of course pointing out that park tickets are still going to run us over $700, and we also need to factor in food.

All that being said - am I being blinded by the allure of great airfare? Or would you also be trying to make it work?

How do you really feel about a long weekend when you normally do a longer trip? This will affect your 2017 planned trip as well since you'll be using points. Keep those thoughts in mind when deciding.

That's during F&W. Could you even book a studio for that time period?

Personally, if I did not have an AP or park tickets sitting in a drawer, I'd be able to pass on the deal. You're talking about spending more than $1K that you hadn't planned on spending. Now, if I had a vacation "slush fund" that I could tap for that $1K, I might be rethinking my hard line on the subject. I've priced out and backed out of more quick trips than I care to admit to!

We have had to resist the lure of those crazy low airfares recently. I'm still chomping at the bit for an April trip because of it!
We are Pass holders, so for us, tickets aren't a factor.
However, when we sit down and add in costs for driving to and from the airport for that cheap flight, parking at the airport, hotel, food, rental car, gas, tolls, etc, we quickly realize that those cheap flights are the only cheap thing about the trip!!
I have run the numbers multiple times trying to make it happen. Maybe I think the total cost will mysteriously drop each time I try! It hasn't happened yet, but if it does, I'll be sure to post!! LOL!!

I'd be trying to make it work...but then I've been told I have an unhealthy attachment to Disney Trips:thumbsup2:rotfl2: Grab the airfare book the room and then work on getting any and all discounts for park tix!

I like your style :thumbsup2 DH will also tell you I have an unhealthy obsession with Disney trips. It's not my fault the place just makes me so darn happy!

TBH, I would be happy with just staying at my DVC resort and maybe doing one or two TS meals. But my husband isn't as big of a fan as I am. Since we own a small business, taking frequent trips -or even extended trips - is not in the cards for us. I have to pick and choose my Disney trips carefully.

You bring up great points - darn you! :goodvibes

I can get a studio at my home resort but as you point out, the cost of park tickets is a hard pill to swallow, especially for a quick trip. I may need to re-evaluate based on my travel preferences. Maybe a late August 2017 trip where we could stay longer would be a better fit for my family. But oh the heat!

Sometimes I think the planning is half the fun!

Are our DHs related? In cahoots? Mine desperately wishes to go somewhere else...adults only...sigh.

I'm a teacher, so I totally understand having to pick trips carefully. If we want to go for a week or longer it would have to be during Christmas, Spring Break, or summer. All three not the most appealing of options. This random 4 day weekend we have in October is an anomaly that would give us the rare chance to vacation at lower crowd levels than we are used to.

Well, with that in mind... You should go, go, go - lol.

I, like Marionnette, have priced and given up more trips than I will ever to cop to. :rolleyes1

Super tempting...I know I'd be looking at it from every angle. But good airfares also come and go every so often and another one will come along. Any chance that your regularly scheduled trip for 2017 would be within 365 days of this long weekend? How long is your regular trip...I'm headed toward thinking about Annual Passes in this case. I'd be doing the math on that to see if that would work.

If we did this trip I'd definitely look to schedule the 2017 trip so that we could take advantage of buying annual passes - think of all of the other long weekend trips I could finagle in 365 days! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

I was just going to suggest this. I would also consider a no park trip. So much to do at the resorts and the new Disney Springs.

IDK, I am starting to think that shorter trips a bit more often fits with my life anyway, that's part of why I would go for it....

Yep, I'd go for it. I would be fine with no parks for such a short trip...would your little guy be ok? Just assure him in 2017 you will hit the parks?? IMO, you don't get many opportunities for quick, cheap trips so I'd be trying to make it work.

I've always wanted to see the Halloween decorations and attend a not very scary
party, so I would jump on it! You could always get a party ticket and a ticket for just one park day, then enjoy Disney Springs, the pool, and all the resort hopping etc. to keep your cost down and actually have a relaxing vacation.

Go! I would consider making it a theme trip--how low can you go. If you will use your points for a longer trip before they expire, consider a value resort. Run the numbers for park days vs. party ticket nights. Eat only quick service and pack snacks. Try to make a game out of it and get the whole family on board.
