This pic from CNN shows traffic heading towards Baghdad --- directly toward all of the smoke from the oil fields which were set on fire.

It just amazes me how much traffic is still moving in and around Baghdad. Don't they know that 'we' told them to stay home.

From what I've gathered by watching the news, the innocent citizens of Bagdad are going about their business. They seem to understand that we aren't there to hurt them. They are staying away from military or government places, but they are going about their daily lives amid all this.

Looking at that it seems so hard to think that people can go on living their normal daily lives. :(

I know. Once the bombs started dropping the only traffic I expected to see was a mass exodus from Baghdad.

It told me 2 things:
1) We're hitting all the military compounds & artillery batteries we intended to even amongst residential areas.

2) The fear of what will happen to them by their gov't catches them leaving overrides the fear of being hit by US missile that misses it's mark.

a lot of people in baghdad have very liitle or no money. they can't afford to leave. where are they supposed to go?

If I had enough money to own a car, but bombs were about to drop on my home, I'd sell the car & hoof it or look for another method of getting out of there.

During General Franks' press conference this morning they showed before and after pictures of govt. buildings they had bombed. The bombs were so precise it was amazing! There were instances where the buildings were demolished yet the walls around the buildings were still standing, as were the civilian homes next door. It was really amazing to see. I'm sure the Iraqis know that they are fairly safe as long as they stay away from government buildings.

not everyone has a car. and even if you had a car, who would you sell it to? if you had a wife and 2, 3, 4 kids, could you really just up and leave your home? where would you stay? where would you sleep?

I believe the topic was about people with cars in Iraq. If it was a gov't I believed in & thought the incoming forces meant ill will towards the civilians then I would stay & fight like hell.

If I were an Iraqi, I would leave the city with my family. I would sleep in the car & do whatever I had to to survive. I would attempt to drive to Kuwait or Jordan if I could. I don't know what the right move is, but I thank God that I don't live under tyranny that would force me to make such decisions.

ok. i was just responding to your post.

you would go to kuwait or jordan? what if they wouldn't let you across the border. if they did where would you stay? the middle of the desert??? how would you feed your family?

i'm just trying to point out that life isn't always as simple as you seem to believe.

This picture looks an awful lot like NYC on 9/11 :(

Caity: There are refugee camps set up right across the border in Jordan, but there's no one there.
