Could you explain Escape photography to me?

I'm trying to get a handle on all the important stuff.

Okay this is what I've gleaned on the boards about what Disney offers with Escape photography so far:
1. A Disney approved photographer (you can't request specific ones or look into their portfolios) will be there to take pictures at the ceremony/cake cutting. I believe that this will take approximately 2 hours.
2. You will recieve 20 4x6 prints (in an album?) as part of the Escape package.
3. All other photos are extra. A photo CD of all your pictures is available for $1000, but if you wait 3 YEARS, the price comes down to $99.
4. If you decide to go with an outside photographer, Disney will give you a honeymoon photo session. A $200 value, but won't give you the cash back.

Is that all right?

Here's the situation I am in. We're doing a vow renewal. It's more of a family event than a couple event like a wedding would be. So the photographs I am most interested are family portraits of the 6 families that will be there and all the different combinations of the families. I don't need an album at all, but want lots of enlargements (like a 20x24 and a dozen 8x10s at least). I'm sure Disney will charge an outrageous amount for enlargements, and that it would be cheaper just to get the CD from an outside photographer and enlarge it ourselves at the local drugstore(Randy Chapman charges $800 for his cheapest package including CD, right?) Since we're doing the family pictures in our V.R. outfits, we don't need the honeymoon package (we don't need any more pictures of DH and I, our walls are already covered). If Disney would just refund the $200, I wouldn't hesitate to hire an outside photographer, but as it is I hate to just waste that money. I'm trying to get what I want in the most economical way possible. I guess I'm willing to wait 3 years to get the enlargements and just frame the 4x6's now, but of course sooner is always better than later. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jil

Unless there has been a change, Randy's smallest package was $575, and you get the CD with copywrite release. He does offer enlargements as well and they are VERY reasonable. We are using Randy for our escape wedding and swapping the included photography for a honeymoon shoot, but when I booked that with Disney Events, they did tell me I could make it a "family shoot" and include my daughter, so that might be an option.

I would say if you are looking a several enlargements, I would go with an outside vendor (Randy :rolleyes1 ) as your enlargements are way more affordable. You can go on both Disney and Randy's sites and check out pricing to see which is most beneficial for your circumstance.

A few pricing examples that I had written down when I was researching are Randy's: 8x10=18.50, 11x14=65.00, 16x20=85.00.
Disney's : 8x10=30.00 (I didn't write down there larger sizes)

Oooh, thanks so much! Do you know where I could find Disney's prices for enlargements? Then I could directly compare what I wanted with what an outside photographer would charge, and go with whatever would end up being the cheaper option.

I just learned about the Photopass CD (I haven't been to WDW). So is the deal with that that during your entire vacation some random, roaming photographers will take your photos and then at the end you can purchase the entire CD? From what I understand it costs $125 and includes 3 5x7s.
That sounds like a good opportunity for family photos too.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, you're right about PhotoPass. There are lots of PhotoPass photographers at key places around Disney property (picture the annoying people who used to try to accost you in front of the castle at MK, waving their camera in your face, except that you *want* them to take your picture and also, they're all over the place :rotfl:). The first photo you take, they give you a credit-card sized card that you will hand to all future photographers. At the end of your trip, you can buy the CD with the printouts for the price you mentioned.

If you can't find the enlargement prices for Disney, let me know. I have it all at home somewhere. The enlargements and photobooks were the main reasons we went with the outside photographer; the idea that I would have to wait 3 years (or pay $1000) for the CD made me sad.

Well, the link I thought I had isn't letting me in, so I will have to look when I get home and see what I can find.

Anyone out there have a link into Disney's photo samples ?

Unfortunately, I don't see a good price list on there (but I know the reprints from Disney are high). There is an email address and contact information for someone at DPS, they could probably answer your question about prices.
