Could we have done things different/better?

We recently took our first trip to Disney (ok, I went once in 1984!) with our 4 dd's. Our 5yo has a mild case of Cerebral Palsy. She can walk and if I didn't tell you so, you'd probably never notice. However, she tires very easily and clearly DisneyWorld is a ton of walking. I called customer service prior to our trip to find out what options were available for her. The gentelman said to go to guest services at whichever park we were at and she would get a handicap pass similar to a fast pass. When we arrived guest services told me this was not the case and they no longer used "handicap fast passes." Because we did have our own personal umbrella stroller along with the rental that they could give us a stroller=wheelchair tag to keep on our stroller.

I will say that it did come in very handy for the long lines, that she could never have stood in. And I appreciated not having a melting down mess at each attraction. But I'm wondering......should we have done anything different?

The Guest Assistance Card was replaced with the DAS (Disability Service Card), which allows guests with disabilities that affect their ability go wait in line to wait outside of the line. The wait time is the same, the difference is that most of the wait is not in the line.

Most guests with mobility related needs do not need a DAS card - their needs are met by using the wheelchair or other mobility device in the lines.
It sounds like you got what your daughter needed and using the stroller as a wheelchair met her needs.
So, no. You should not have done anything different.

You can find more about the DAS in post one of his thread:

Thanks for the quick reply! It was a last minute decision to add Disney to our travel plans, so I did not have the opportunity to do much, if any, research.

nope. that is the standard/only accommodation for stamina issues. not even the old GAC would have been issued if that is her only need. the stroller as wheelchair is the appropriate response
