Could this have been a scam or did I just turn down a really good offer?

Well a few days ago I loaned my bird hat to my new account because she is made for Thanksgiving. I decided to act new to see if people would try to scam me. Then this girl asks me to trade and she offers the host space pin, a cowboy hat, and a couple of other rare things that I can't remember. Then she says that she can also get me and inferno from her friend who has a lot. I ask to see this friend first. She asks if I will trade the bird if I see it. I asked if she was trying to trick me. Then she said I was not new and called me a liar and said she will report me. Was this a scam or did inferno just fly out of my hand?

Sorry, but I believe she was trying to trick you. I really don't think anyone would trade inferno for a bird hat, especially since they are now available again with the cards that accompany the real VMK pins.

not only that, she wanted you to trade BEFORE getting you all your items, and, then got upset when you wouldnt

That was a scam. First of all, she's trading her friends Inferno? Right... Second, you NEVER EVER EVER click that accept button unless what they have is what you want for your items. If she had inferno, I'd tell her to friend you and come back with it and then do the trade. I'd bet my entire account you'd never see her again and if you did, she'd have some excuse ready for you.

lol yeah that was definitely a scam to get a "new person" to trade her your stuff. people always try that on new ppl. i see it happening on a daily basis. they tried to get you all excited and make you think you were going to get something really rare, but in reality there was no way she was gonna give you inferno in my opinion, sorry to say. but hey at least you know you didnt turn down an inferno, right? lol

I didn't want to risk losing my special friend. I would never trade him unless for inferno, stitch hat, sparrow, or green flips. Then I would work really hard to get him back. Thank you for telling me. I'm glad I didn't fall for it even though I am easily fooled and I have been scammed way to many times. I actually learned from my mistakes for once. Well now I know that I didn't turn down one of the things I most want.

That sounds like a scam alright. If you've been scammed before, some of the Sticky's here on the DIS and some info on the VMK site can be really helpful to identify a scammer. I'm just glad you didn't fall for it and get hurt

Yea I've read all the sticky's. But there might be more that I didn't read. I'm not sure. Just in case, can someone give me some links to the sticky's that talk about scamming?

Anyway, yea, that was definitly a scam, as others have already posted. Glad you saw through, and hope you reported the scammer.
