I thought hurricane season was over at the end of Sept. We are going Oct. 9th thru 18th and now I see some people saying, "Stay away storms". I didn't know Oct. was still hurricane season, Is it? Linda

Yes it is. They are rare in October but the season is not over.

Wilma was in Oct last year.

I believe the season lasts through Nov. Yes there have been storms in Oct - sorry prob not the news you want to hear.

ETA: Hurricane season starts June 1 and ends Nov 30

I think they become less frequent in October, but the season doesn't officially end until November 1st.

We'll be there Oct 14th-21st so I'll keep my fingers crossed too :thumbsup2

I was at a conference during Wilma last October. The parks were closed in the morning.

The following week was actually pretty busy because of the people displaced from southern FL.

I was at WDW during Wilma. It did affect my trip in many ways, overall it wasn't as good a trip as I usually have. I enjoy the entertainment stuff (characters, street acts, shows) at Disney, and much of it wasn't running for days around the hurricane. I tried to go late in October just to avoid hurricanes, and had to deal with Wilma anyway. :(

We were in WDW years ago Thanksgiving week for DH birthday. Tropical storm Keith came through.

I have lived in Fl. all my life. Oct. is a very nice time of year to do Disney. Don't let the fear of a possiable hurricane keep you away. It would be like never going to California because they might have an earthquake. Hope you have a great time. We will be there the end of Oct.

Actually - hurricane season officially ends Nov. 30th! My DH and I were set to fly to Puerto Rico around Nov. 19, 1999, and had to reschedule our trip because a hurricane was heading that way.

and just because the season is over; doesn't mean there won't be any more hurricanes. just last year in 2005 there two storms 'after' hurricane season was 'over'.

and this one lasted all the way up to the day before the season ended:

granted, neither of these affected any land mass and the chances of one hitting central florida at that time of the year are slim. my point being that these days, the way the weather seems to be progressing, we need to keep an eye on the tropics year round. that being said, you gonna have a great time in oct. storm or no storm.

Though I think if you explain very nicely to any storms in the Carribean that they are not supposed to develop into hurricanes at that late date, they will tend to comply and you'll have at worst some showers after midnight.

that would be great!! :thumbsup2 :wizard: :sunny:

I forgot about Wilma! It started rolling in the night of my bachelorette party at Pleasure Island.

Yes, sometimes we do get them in October and a few in November...

We were talking to a CM last month who said the hotels in and around Orlando tend to fill up when a hurricane is predicted for either coast because everyone evacuates inland. If you have to evacuate, why not make a vacation out of it, right?

There was a hurricane over North Florida October 2004, we got some pretty bad weather which shut virtually the whole of Epcot down.

It was actually cold too - it went from 90 degree average temp to about 65!!

This is actually what a lot of Floridians do. I've done it at least a half a dozen times. Sure beats the heck out of sitting in my dark house, sweating profusely round the clock with no electricity for a few days, eating cans of tuna. Both my hubby and I are basically out of work until things return to normal, anyway.

Personally, I think our AP's should be included in that "hurricane supply tax-free week."
