Could the unofficial guide be wrong?

I am just wondering because I was at Boarders yesterday reading the Unofficial guide to Disney and I was looking at the september charts. They have a number system to rate the crowd levels on different days and the 3rd week of September had all 8's! :confused3 That's the week I will be there!

The rest of the month had 2's and 3's but that one week was all 8's.... is there something going on that week that I don't know about?

Thanks for your help! :wave2:

If you go to their website (they list it in the Guide) you'll see that they made adjustments to that week. It was a mistake when they originally did it. However, they also adjusted most of the month to a 4 or 5 as opposed to the 2's that originally were there. I'm not sure exactly why they did that. We'll be there from Sept. 19th - 24th and I have to admit I was a little worried when I first read their numbers in the book. I hope that helps! :)

It's because they changed the way that rate the crowd levels now. Made the change back sometime back in May. The crowd rating now relates to the anticipated average wait at the headliners at MK during peak hours for that day. Thus a 4 would relate to an anticipated wait of 40 mininutes, a 5=50 minutes etc. Under this new system, you more than likely will not see any ratings of 1 or 2. Check out the crowd blog at touringplans.com for up to date explanations.

do you have any idea if that is taking fast pass into account? I am guessing just plain old standby lines? i think that guide is one of the best and according to what it says online it is accurate but wondering cause it just hasn't been our experince ( historically) Thanks

I looked at that page and am clueless still

I saw those same numbers and I have to say it worried me too. But there are still lots of rooms still available at the Value Resorts during that time so I'm little more relaxed about our dates. Besides, what's a few more people?! :crowded:

Hi folks,

The 8's are typos - sorry about that. The website has the most recent crowd prediction levels. The main reason for the change from 2's to 4/5 is that we changed the scale to more accurately reflect what we think the actual wait times will be. In the old scale, for example, it wasn't clear what kinds of waits you could expect on a '2' day; In the new scale, the prediction is explicit.

Incidentally, the Crowd Blog link on the website's main page links to the next version of the crowd level calendar, where we've slightly increased our predictions for September. The main reason for this is that Disney seems to have put in longer hours this year versus last September, and longer hours generally means larger crowds. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the result of the free dining plan offer. It's not our official calendar yet, as I'm waiting for comments before releasing it.

Thanks for reading the book and visiting the site.

Sincerely

Len Testa
