How true. Pretty sure it will come down to being able to emit an rfid signal or not-certainly could do everything else, and way more.
 
No. You need a new Apple phone to make the watch work and Apple phones are a rather small percentage of phones in use. Not nearly a large enough population of Apple phones.
 

Folks as the iWatch is not available until Spring 2015 this thread and speculations about Magic Bands versus iWatch can continue on the Communities board :)
