Could the DIS Board have a thread that just reports good rental transactions?

Has there ever been a thread that compiles a list of transactions that went smooth? I know on this other board I frequent, there is a buy/sell part of the board and they run a sticky that you can look at the transactions that people have done. Everything is voluntary and you have to also watch out for shill posting and do your homework still, but at least it gives you a chance to see if your seller has done any other reported transactions.

This person was responding to the post about one scammer who took in, I think, 4 DISers. Granted, the overwhelming number of rental transactions go through smoothly, so this might not be necessary. But I agree that it would add a certain degree of confidence to a transaction if we could go to one place to post good (and only good) statements about renting from a particular poster. I've rented two or three times from others, and sold points once and had only good experiences, but it would have been nice to have had the extra ability to check past good "references."

Is there something I'm missing here? Would this put the DIS Board in a potentially bad legal position or something? Definitely not worth that, if so.

Since so many transactions go off without a hitch, I think it might be more beneficial to list those that don't. Now having said that, I don't think the DIS should be in the business of rating ANYONE! There could possiblly be some legal ramifications, so I think it would have to be done VERY carefully. For that reason, I would not expect to see a rating system on the DIS. Besides, the DIS/DVC board is not a travel agency for the benefit of renters.

We have always allowed and encouraged posters to report their positive rental experiences. These may be posted on the DVC Mousecellaneous Board. There has never been restriction on such posts. A few have done so in the past.

Then you get the notorious commercial renter who gave herself kudos using another screen name. All it takes is another e-mail address.

If I saw kudos from someone with very few posts, especially if all of those posts were kudos, I would be doubly suspicious. I'd prefer to take the word of someone who had a variety of posts over a long period of time, which could still be faked, but would take a lot of time and effort.

Since DVC is discouraging a "pattern of rental behavior" and a lot of DISers who rent are fairly casual about renting (i.e. they may have done it once a few years ago and be doing it again now), I don't think it would be useful.
