I have seen the "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice" video a few times and I still don't get it. I just refer to it as the "black and white dirty video with huge blow-ups of Natalie." Would someone please explain the point of this video to me?

I'm not a fan, but I don't hate them either. Just trying to figure out why this has been #1 on Vh1s top twenty for weeks now.

Thanks!

I've only seen the video once, but I thought it was about stifling free speech, society telling women not to have opinions, be a model female with an empty brain and closed mouth.

You just made a great point - no one I know has heard this song or seen the video, yet it's # 1 on VH1. I have never heard the song once on the radio either.

I *used* to be a fan and i've seen the video once and it just seems like they are angry at the world.

Sorry I couldn't help, but i'm also wondering how this video is so popular. :confused3

I've seen it a couple of times but then I was looking for it as I'm a fan (see my signature). I agree with you about what the meaning of the video. I hear the song everywhere. I've heard it at the gym, at the mall ...well, everywhere.

I can't really say I blame them for being angry. They received bona fide death threats over their comments. Threatening to kill someone, or someone's child, because you don't like what they say is just wrong no matter how you spin it.

Willie Nelson made similar comments about Bush - asking the press to stop calling Bush a cowboy or a Texan because he was neither and gave both a bad name. Have you heard any massive Willie Nelson backlash? Heck no.

And I've seen tons of people falling all over themselves to make excuses for Mel Gibson. "oh it's not his fault, he was just drunk, he didn't mean it, look he has a Jewish friend!".

Maybe if Natalie Maines had claimed she was drunk, everyone would have forgiven her?

But then she would still be a female - and we all know women should just keep their pretty mouths shut.

My friend Shira who is a fan explained the song to me about how Natalie Maines make some rude comments about Bush, and Bush threatened her. It's one of my favorite songs, whatever it's about!

I took it as a video showing how it was way back where if a woman was outspoken and had the "wrong" opinion they would lock her in the "rest home" to silence her. Doesn't the video have them in a straightjacket? I've only seen it a few times.

I agree. I like this song and the video is really pretty good.

I just couldn't get past them wiping their dirty hands on themselves. I mean, WTH? Anyway, I think most people have moved on from the DC scandal and wish they would too. But whatever, no biggie.

I know what the song is about but the video still confuses me. Lots of videos confuse me though. :happytv:

I don't have much of an opinion about the video but I really love the song. :)

In the video they show Natalie writing on a chalkboard. It reads....

"To speak without thinking is like shooting without aiming."

I, for one , think that's a dig at VP Cheney and his little hunting accident.

So I guess they really aren't ready to make nice or backdown. ;)

I like how the video shows an xray of a spine - shows she has one. ;) :thumbsup2

Our soldiers are brave. :sunny:

Natalie just thinks she's brave.

My husband is a soldier - been to the sandbox three times and has the scars, PTSD, and combat action badge to prove it.

He is a Dixie Chicks fan, and he's proud of them for speaking their minds. That's what he's fighting for - the right to speak out against your government without fear of reprisal.

Your husband is brave.

The Dixie Chicks are not brave. Even children speak their minds.

People in this country speak out against the government all the time (and not just against the current administration). It's barely even news anymore unless your a celeb.

I truely appreciate those who believe in free speech. My deep felt thanks go out to your Husband and those like him.

I believe the reason that this video has been number 1 for 8 weeks is because of anti-Bush sentiment. I think that this video is very moving to those who are angry with the way the war on terror and the war in Iraq are being handled and how some people want to stifle free speach. Since the video top 20 is based on votes the VH1 viewers are voting not only for the video but for the anti-Bush theme inside of it.

I like the song and I like the video. It's nice to see a video that says something.

As for the dirty hands, I think that symbolizes that they got their hands dirty in this mess and the dirt just won't come off now. The spine shows courage and yes, you have to be brave or crazy or both to put your livelihood on the line like Natalie did IMO.
