I'm going to Disney in October, and I'm interested in taking advantage of the photopass system. I went in December last year, and decided that photopass was probably too much of a hassle for me to spend my time with without knowing anything about it. This time, however, I'd like to get some nice Disney photos in addition to the ones we take while there. How does the registration system work? Do I need to show somebody my resort ID? Do I need to register somewhere online before I go? Please let me know what I should about this. Any help will be appreciated.

It's really easy. When you get to your first park, you will see photographers right there, at the entrance. They will give you a little credit card size pass, this is your PhotoPass. Each time you want to have one of the PhotoPass photographers take a shot, you will give them the card, they will swipe it, then take the pictures. They are everywhere in the parks. Then, you can either view the photos are the camera shop in each park at the end of your day there, or you can wait until you get home. You just log on to the PhotoPass site, enter the number on the back of your PhotoPass card, and up pop your photos. You then view them, do what you want with them and order them. I love PhotoPass..I have the same card they gave me the first time I used it over a year ago!!! Use it every single time!!

Jumping in here, I am leaving in 2 days (YEAH!) and just realized I don't know much about this Photopass, either. This may be a dumb question, but will we have one card for our family, or does everyone need their own card?

Thank you for explaining. I was also confused about how/where to get the card.

You only need one card. Unless you are planning on splitting up and parts of the family will be in different areas. Then you would be better off with two cards. But, don't worry. If you do end up with two cards, you can put both card numbers in when you go to the site...I've done that before. Had to get a new card because I left my original card back in the room!!

You can combine multiple cards into one account.

Just a tip: if you have a digital camera, take a photo of the back of the photopass card so if you loose it (or if the photographer gives the wrong card to the wrong guest) you have the number and won't loose any photos. Or you just write the number down.

The photo shops can try to find you photos if you know the time your photos were taken. But it is a lot quicker if you know the number.

Did you have to put in both your card numbers at the same time? Or can you add card numbers later if you are within the 30 day window? I'm trying to combine cards with two other families for the CD and we are waiting to log in until I can get a little more info. Thanks!!

you can put up to 10 photopass card numbers on 1 cd as long as you don't go over total cd limit of pics. i have no idea on cd site thing as i bought mine in park on my last day.

How does photopass work when on rides? I understand that this being done now but don't know how it works.

PhotoPass is great -- and if you're going to be there more than a few days, the CD is well worth the cost (you'll probably spend more on soda pop while you're there)-- it's about the best souvenir and memory aid you can get. You will get all the original photos that they think turned out okay (we had a photog try a night shot that didn't get include;, am sure it was too dark and blurry). Most of them will be great shots, especially if you cooperate and ham it up! Most of the photographers do a really good job (but of course, working with people, there will be some shots that don’t look as good as you might like).

The photogs will be in several key locations -- just look for people in costume with a large camera. You can get a new card (free) from any of them -- after you have a card, you just hand the card to them before you pose. Be sure to get it back! You can also combine cards, if you end up with more than one -- write down the numbers of them on something you will not lose -- then you can still get the CD and get to your site online if you lose a card.

They will take individual and group shots for you if you ask, or just pose that way, taking turns -- it's a treat for me to actually be in some of our photos now --since I've always been the family photographer.

If you do a pose with Simba (AK), Tinkerbell (MK) or Stitch (MGM) those photos will be on the CD (you can ask if/where they do that -- it usually involves holding your hands out) -- they're really cute.

The photogs will be in front of the parks with characters sometimes, at "vista" locations near the entrance -- and at character stops. They will not be with all the characters, even in the group character areas. They do not do ride photos, and the photos taken at the Water Parks and rides (i.e. Splash Mountain) are not included on the CD (at least so far, but the system keeps being improved). Added note: saw a post recenlty that said they have started testing putting the ride photos on – with the one at Test Track – hopefully more will soon follow.

They, or a CM will also take a photo with your camera (but their photo will probably be better). Sometimes there are lines, esp. for popular or “rare” characters, and in Toon Town, buy some places the lines are short and /or move fairly quickly. Camp Minnie-Mickey tends to have longer lines.

The photos on the CD are high resolution so you can get nice enlargements, and/or do your own enhancements at home. Okay, here's the sneaky tip -- you can add the enhancements to your online photos and use print screen and cropping to get low-res versions of them that are okay for scrapbooking, etc. -- but, by all means, if you're there a few days or more, get a lot of PhotoPass pics taken and buy the CD.

Don't wait 'til the last minute to go get the CD; they are available now at each park -- even if you get a couple taken after you get the CD -- that you'll only have online, you'll still be assured of having gotten the CD in time (the lines will be short to nonexistent in the afternoon). You can look at your photos without buying in the Parks, then you can see if you want to go back and redo any (if you have time).

And, no, I have no "interest" in pushing the PhotoPass system -- I just really love it a lot! If you are a photographer, and there's no line, it's fun to talk with the photogs, also -- sometimes I even take their picture!

The online site for print photos is different than the site to order CD.

I love the photopass.. WORTH EVERY PENNY..the only disney pics I'm in...We have tons of photos off of the CD, the one in my signature is a purchased one but is on the cd too without enhancements............

I'm really glad you asked this question, JzeroT1437, and you got some great answers!

Okay, I think I understand how to get and use the photopass. What I don't understand is how to get the pictures at the end. It sound like there are two options, and you do one or the other???

So, you go to pick up your CD near the end of the trip (where???) for $99. You also have access to your account(s) for 30 days after the end of your trip? after the first use of your card? when you return home. How much does each of these pictures cost???

Still confused, but getting less confused.

Thank you!

So, do you need to buy the $99 CD before you leave the parks? can you use more than one photopass ID for this CD?
Can you buy the $99 CD off the website once you get home? Or can you only get the individual pics at outrageous prices from the website?
Will the MNSSHP be on the $99 CD or only available on line?

Unless you live in Florida (unless they've recently changed it) you can order the CD once you get home

You can either buy the CD before you leave WDW or buy it ONLINE.

Yes, you can put several Photopass cards onto one CD.

Yes, MNSSHP will be on the CD if you ask them to put it on the CD.

The photos are $12.95 individually.

Photos on the CD will not have any enhancements like borders, logos, and signatures.

I think I understand but I have a few questions.

Can you buy photos at WDW as well as order the CD at home?

Would this even be beneficial or not?

Do you need a special printer for these pictures (to print off the CD)?

I'm very new to digital photography.

Thanks!

Yes, I guess you could buy photos at WDW and then buy the CD from home. The only benefit to buying at WDW I guess is to save on the shipping. They charge a flat rate of $2.49 for photos bought online.

You can print from home or you can bring the CD to Walmart or another photo shop. Anyone can print them. If you print them from home, you'll need a good quality photo printer.
