Could I Be?

Definitely call the OB this morning. Be sure you let the receptionist know you had a prior tubal ligation. You need to know if you are pregnant and exactly *where* that pregnancy is--hopefully, where its supposed to be. Best of luck to you!

I had one done, and have taken many pregnancy tests since. What I've learned is that although I was an every 28 days kind of gal, the older I get, the more irregular I get - I skipped 2 months when I was only 38! If it happens, it's usually the first year after.

I had a tubal on my oldest dd's 21st birthday - my littlest one had just turned a year old. About a year after my tubal I skipped a month and felt some of the same symptoms as when I was pregant (never had morning sickness with 5 pregnancies, but the tiredness, sore breasts, etc.). I few weeks later, I had a gush of water - I thought I had peed my pants for a second. I'm thinking it was an early miscarriage. I started my period a couple of weeks later. I have been careful about avoiding ovulation time since -- I'm 43 and dh is 46 and we are defininitely not wanting more children at this point in the game.

I don't know how old you are, but my I remember when I was pregant with my oldest that my mother thought she was pregant as well -- the home test was positive and my dad was panicking -- he was nearing in on 60 at the time -- a bit older than my mother. She went to the doctor and it turned out she was starting the early stages of menopause. They were both quite releaved.

I had a friend that got pregnant with her 5th after a tubal. After that she had them clamp (tie, whatever they do) twice and made her husband get a V:rotfl: I have had a false positive and was told that the egg probably fertilized, but didn't implant. (?) Let us know the outcome!

Don't let your doc talk you in to coming in to the office for another urine test -- they're no more accurate than the drugstore ones. Ask your doctor for a quantitative beta hCG test, to be repeated in 3 days. It's the longest 3 days of your life but it will truly tell you whether or not this is something to get excited over. A faint positive 2 days in a row could be a sign of a chemical pregnancy (which won't stick) or it could be the precursor of some great news -- a beta hCG series will tell you for sure. Best wishes and please keep us posted.

ps - I'm very unexpectedly 9+ weeks pg, so I can completely empathize with your feelings right now!

You really miust get in to see your dr asap, after sterilisation there is a higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy

Hope its not, but good luck

I'm very unexpectedly 35+wks pregnant... I know the feeling too :rotfl:

OP have you told DH? What did he say? :wizard:

i second the beta quant levels being tested. Like PP said the chance for ectopic is increasd if youv'e had a tubal. An ultrasound is going to be your next step after the levels if they are rising, so they can check the placement of the pregnancy. Good Luck , Keep us posted.

I've always read that there is never false positives, only false negatives. Congrats! You must be meant to have this child!

FWIW, there are indeed false positives (other than being pg but miscarrying shortly after a pg test), but they are nasty things like hormone-producing tumors and whatnot. Rare.

According to my mom (my dr allowed her in w/ my dh since we thought this would be my last c-section!) she remembers him tying them and then cutting. I don't know if he burned or not. Won't she be surprised when she hears this news!

OK, there are MANY MDs who will NOT do a tubal during a c-section, b/c the rate of failure is much higher than doing it once you have healed up a bit. Yes it's two procedures. But your body is SO interested in healing itself when it has undergone a surgical birth, that all too often (relatively) the tubes will heal up along with the uterus, fascia, and dermal layers.

You should really talk to that OB and have him/her talk to colleagues, to see how many are requiring a second visit for it, rather than "while I'm in here", b/c the failure rate is higher the way it was done on you.

Hope you get the results you want!

Not exactly what I wanted to hear..I had my tubal done last Summer after my last c-section!:scared1: No one mentioned any of this to me...gulp!!

It happened to my MIL! We were pregnant at the same time!

She called us on April fools day saying she was pregnant (at the time my SIL's were 4 & 2...second family for her and she did have her tubes tied after the second and 'final' girl and I was 5 months pregnant)...so we all laughed...hahahaha. Well who was laughing when she called about 3 or so weeks later crying her eyes out that she really WAS pregnant and she'll NEVER play that trick on anyone ever again. :lmao: :rotfl: Those were my reactions....hers was more like  :scared:

It's funny because my son's aunt is 4 months younger than him. We honestly can't imagine life without little Ms. Erin who is now a beautiful 16 y/o little :stir:

Just last month i thought I was. DH has a vasectomy last Nov. Well last month I was 10 days late and had a test under the vanity. Took it and it was positive. Called the Dr. in tears and demanded a blood test. The blood test was negative. I had always heard of false negatives but never false positives. The Dr. said that there are more false positives than most people realize.

If you have not already gotten a blood test--go get one.

My moms friend had her tubes tied and burned.....
she had twins..

I think if its MEANT to happen...it will...

I wanted to have my tubes tied after my 2nd DD... but I had heart issues and they postponed me... Thankfully. 7 yrs later (this past Feb) I had my first son, and I love him!!!!! (of course)... After him, I wanted my tubes tied (again), and they said the OR was booked and I had to reschedule at my 6 week check up.. I'm thinkin WTH???? Well....life got crazy and I never went to my 6 week check up.
August 1...I was late.. took a test...had the faintest line ever...thought no way. Bought a more expensive home test...line again..
Yup...I"m about 6 weeks pregnant...
What's meant to be...is meant to be.

A faint line generally means low hcg, which could be a sign of a chemical pregnancy or a tubal pregnancy. You should see your doctor, as someone suggested above, just to rule this out. Also, keep in mind that those sticks only get so dark, so your hcg might be going up as well.

I'm sorry if someone else mentioned this already. Good luck.

I'm in the same boat...8 weeks along! I can barely even talk about in real life at this point, not really what I was expecting/wanting right now.

In my experience, when I am pregnant, and its going to stick, the line is SOLID by the time Ive missed my period. There are no maybes about it. I've had one "chemical pregnancy" where I got a positive, but started bleeding 5 weeks later. They did a blood test which showed that yes, I was pregnant if only for a little while, it must not have implanted. The line on the test then was fainter than usual.

I also recommend going in asap, b/c they'll need to find out if its an eptotic pregnancy (which there is a higher risk for with tubals!) And, yes, Ive heard of LOTS of tubal babies! ;)

Thanks everyone for all of your posts and well wishes. I just wanted to update that I have started bleeding and am waiting for my dr's office to call me back. They are thinking that I am m/c and I need to go get blood work done.

I'm sorry for your misfortune -- I'm sure you must have mixed feelings right now. I've been there many times. PM me if you need to share -- I'll be glad to listen!
