Blaze has been acting lethargic and stuff this weekend, and for the past month or two he's really gotten thinner than he should be and bony (ever since we changed their diet from kitten to adult food). I'm taking him in this afternoon to get checked out and I'm really nervous. I think it's probably nothing more than poorly nourished beause he's not eating his food right, but still he's my baby and I'm worried.

I'd appreciate any "be well" thoughts y'all could spare.

Thanks!

I very best wishes, Tammi, for little Blaze. Hoping he feels better soon, and get a bit chubbier. :) Don't let him go to the W.I.S.H. board. ;)

Kitty hugs and nose kisses for Blaze. Here's hoping that he only needs a switch to some tastier food for his finicky palate!

Take care and keep us posted.

{{{HUGS}}} Tamie. I know how much your kitties mean to you and how much you love them.

I sure hope that Blaze is just being a typically picky eater kitty and that there is nothing seriously wrong.

Katholyn

I hope everything is ok with Blaze. Let us know.

Best wishes for Blaze.

If he wants kitten food, get him kitten food. My Ragdoll will only eat Meow Mix. He doesn't complain if we get another type, he just won't eat it. So we just get Meow Mix.

You might want to make sure the vet worms him, those little parasites can really do a lot of damage.

Actually Dan, the WISH Board is 'We're Inspired to Stay Healthy' and not just thin.

Tamie, I'm hoping your Kitty feels better soon! It could just be the change of food, but your Vet should be able to tell you.

LOL Dan!

I'm hoping it is just the change in food. We had to switch to the adult from kitten because of Sienna -- she's the opposite end of the scale and is too fat. :p

Awww Tammi, I know how you feel. I remember when I went away to college only to come home for a visit to find my Cleo 3 pounds lighter and in terrible shape. No one noticed until I got home and pointed out that she was lathargic and skinny and looked terrible. Well it turned out she had flees (as did my other cat) and no one noticed. She apparently gets some sort of allergic type of reaction that causes her to become anemic after being bit bly flees. She also couldn't sleep because of it. It was easy to fix and as soon as we got rid of the flees she was back and bouncing again.

Anyway, after that ramble, I just wanted you to know that sometimes little things can cause "problems" like that. I hope that the vet finds nothing to be wrong with Blaze... feed him some fatty food in the mean time ;) {{hugs}}

I'm hoping it's something small and my gut feel is it is. But I'll feel much better having the vet tell me it's something small than I feel just going on gut instinct.

Shouldn't be fleas -- I've been combing him like crazy trying to get rid of some horrible knots and haven't seen any sign, plus I use the flea medicine (Revolution?) regularly.n But it could still be something similar. And can't rule out a spider bite or ant bite either, as he loves to sit right next to the door and pounce bugs that come in.

{{{kitty hugs}}} and best wishes for you and your kitty.
Hopefully it's something easily fixed.

We ove our furbabies!! :)

Here's hoping Blaze is feeling better after he sees the vet. My cat, Chester, also likes to pounce on bugs. He likes to torture them. He gets them so they can't fly or crawl very well, and then he just watches them for awhile. And then, he eats them!

{{{{{Furbaby Hugs}}}}} for Blaze. I hope everything is fine and that he is feeling better real soon!!! Keep us posted on how he is. Do you notice any difference in Sienna?

It may take him a little while to learn to like the taste of the new food. Maybe changing the food will help?? Anyway, I hope he starts putting weight back on real soon!!

Back from the vet and she said that indeed he is rather underweight and needs to build up weight (I, personlly, would like to see him put on about 2 pounds, but even just 1 pound would put him more in the right weight category). She said there are several possibilities (including the dreaded FIP, which we lost his brother Sage to over a year ago) BUT that of all the possibilities, the one she thinks is BY FAR the most likely is exactly what I was thinking -- the change in diet. Blaze has always been a picky eater (not so with Skye or Sienna) so he was barely keeping his weight when on the kitten food, which has more fat to it. Looks like adult food just isn't gonna cut it for him.

So, we've got some ideas to try to get some more fatty-stuff down him. The one I'm going to try tonight is making some homemade chicken noodle soup (no onions) with peas and carrots and boneless chicken, then toss in a handful of the dry kitten food we still have so it can add to the "mush" and take up some of the room of noodles while adding nutrients and stuff, and see if Blaze will eat a full serving of that.

In the meantime, I'm on the hunt for other kitty recipes that we could give Blaze.

Switching back to kitten only for everyone isn't an option because of Sienna (who seems to keep gaining, which says poor Skye, I'm going to have to just stop the canned food), and going to structured feeding isn't going to help either I don't think because Blaze is a grazer. He nibbles on the dry food off and on all day, so if we take away his food for the day, he'll probly only get worse. Though I may try that, too...

Anyway, we're to try him on this other diet of increased kitten chow for a month and see if there's any improvement. If not, or if he just gets worse, then we bring him back in for some bloodwork.

Poor baby!! I'm just so glad I saw this AFTER you got back!

Hopefully it is just the diet. I have two skinny boys and two FAT girls. The boys actually eat more than the girls and sometimes I have to feed them separately just to make sure the girls got something.

Give your sweet little furbaby a hug for me! Keep us informed!

Hope that's all it is.

I have a skinny girl.........I just leave the bowl out and she eats when she wants too. The others are just fat :teeth:

Hopefully just a change in diet will help. Can you find a way to give him some canned food and not Sienna? You could just keep the dry food out for him to nibble on but have something extra for just him 1 or 2 times a day.
