Could ABC buy "Enterprise"?

Since UPN could very well be dumping Enterprise, is there any possibility that ABC would pick up such an expensive show if it did go on the block?

Paramount owns the show, so if UPN does not renew, Paramount could shop the show around, or syndicate it. I don't get why they don't put it on CBS. That network is open to so many more people. I love this show, and visit message boards for ST, and there are alot of people out there who are interested in the show, but it is not available to them.

:D

While ABC could, of course, afford to purchase Enterprise the series, it is very unlikely, since Paramount owns the rights to the Star Trek franchise, and Paramount owns UPN.

Hopefully, they will get some decent writers for next season...the current story line is very weak. Especially since there are basically no references to the Xindi in other Star Trek series. Of course, this could be explained through a "change" in the timeline.

Personally, I'd like to see the series end next year, and tie up all the loose ends. For instance, the sphere builders could be our first contact with the "Founders" from DS9 and Benjamin Sisco (the Emissary) could somehow be a decendant of Merriweather's. It would explain the Bajoran religion, and the connection of the non-corporeal beings in the wormhole to humanity.

If the series doesn't end next year, a major overhaul of story lines is needed.

The story has gotten much better since the first season but it really does seem pretty finite with the sphere on it's way now. How long exactly does it take for a Xindi sphere to get to earth???

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It does seem that the whole "expanse" plot is temporary and that the real main story is the timeline changes. They could jump from sub plot to sub plot all they want and just say "Ooops, the (insert name of new alien here) caused another time shift!"

The UPN network signal quality is sub-par in my area. I almost couldn't watch season 1 because of all the interference, and I had cable. I guess it's better than not getting it at all :)

I know there are some here that would disagree, but I don't feel Enterprise was ever a quality series. The writing is not of the calibur of earlier Star Trek series, the characters are not interesting and they keep finding new excuses for T'Pol to get naked (which I grant you is fun to watch, but is really a mark of desparation to get people to tune in).

In my opinion, Star Trek reached its zenith with Deep Space 9 (the best Trek ever, bar none) It managed to remain better than average with Voyager (after its second season), but then it jumped the galactic shark with Enterprise.

The show will probably be canceled because no one wants to watch it. No network in their right mind will consider picking it up. Enterprise is truly the series that boldly sucks where no show has sucked before.

So are you saying you don't care for it? :)

Yes. Thank you. I thought perhaps my post was too vague (LOL).

What if they were to switch Archer's beagle with a Bassett hound? Would that get you to the bargaining table perhaps?

Any show with the taste and discrimination demonstrated by prominantly featuring a Basset hound would definitely receive my consideration. The problem is the that, while the Basset is a fine and noble beast indeed, they aren't real big in the obedience department and they tend to get into trouble a lot. Star Fleet has never faced anything that compares to the destructive force of a bored Basset hound. That combined with the fact that a Basset would be insistent on sniffing the behind of every alien ambassador who came on board (a basset lives and dies by its nose) means we must come to the sad conclusion that a Basset is not an ideal starship companion.

As a 25 year Star Trek fan, the reason that Enterprise fails to attract viewers is that it's kind of boring. I get the characters mixed up in my head. Also no really interesting conflicted unusual characters. The original had Spock. Next Gen had Data. DSN had Odo. Voyager never really hooked me until they added 7 of 9, and then I really enjoyed the series. I liked the Doctor too. On Enterprise, their Doctor has potential, but again it's kind of boring. My kids feel the same way, and Star Trek was destination viewing for the other series. Paramount need to fix it, or axe it.

Wow. I really like this show. i think it has gotten much better this season, but I am not to crazy about the prominance of T'pol & her figure. As a woman myself, i wouldn't call it jealousy, but non-interest. She's there for the guys, just like 7 of 9 was on Voyager (not crazy about that show).

I have been watching ST since the early 1970s. When i was a little girl, I used to eat my dinner while watching re-runs of TOS on a black & white tv. That's what started my love of sci-fi. I agree with WDWhound about DS9. I remember being unsure about the show (it was not created by Gene - it shouldn't be!), but it went on to be my fav. My e-mail address (when it works) is even "Defiant," the best ship in the fleet (JMHO).

i hope they don't cancel Enterprise - and it sounds like you guys are talking a bit about last night's episode, which I haven't watched yet (taped it). Flyers game is on, so I will watch tomorrow.

Any of you ever been to the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas? it was closed when i was there in may 2002.

this show has not got me hooked at all. And I have watched all of the Star Trek Series. My favorite being Next Generation.

Wasn't there a falling out between Roddenberry's wife and Rick Berman. Something about his lack of concern with quality?

No, you're thinking of Walt's nephew and Michael Eisner. Oh wait, maybe it's a trend.

I just don't know how they expect these guys to keep cranking out episodes of this franchise year after year. Talk about beating a dead horse. They should have let Star Trek rest in peace years ago with dignity - certainly before Nemesis and even Insurrection.

This has drifted from rumor into chat, so I'm moving this thread to the Community Board.

What is Enterprise??
Enterprise is the current Star Trek Series. It takes place before the 60's Star Trek series and features the adventures of the original Enterprise (much smaller than Kirk's Enterprise). The idea is that man is just beginning to travel to other parts of the galaxy and the United Federation of Planets has not yet been formed. An interesting twist is that the Vulcans do not trust Humans yet and are doing everything they can to slow our advance into space.

The show is only shown on UPN and its ratings have been terrible. It stars Scott Bacula as Captain Archer.

I am another Star Trek Fan who doesn't care for Enterprise. I don't hate it, its just so BORING!.

They could have used the series to do so many things. Fill in all the pre-history with many aliens, Klingon Wars, origins of many trek devices.

Instead they introduced some strange time-travel arc the very first episode. Then get them stuck in a place never heard of again doing battle with an alien species never seen again in any ofthe other treks. The Expanse arc is old and tiring. They either need to employ some creative license and "shift" the timeline so that it doesn't ever exist or kill the show.

I'ld rather watch reruns of TNG on TNT than Enterprise.

Sounds like a neat show. I used to like the original ST. Now, the next question, what is UPN??

Quick. Somebody call Marie. Dan is off his meds again.

My wife was never a fan of the original ST series, but soon after we were married, we got hooked on ST:The Next Generation. We continued watching all the various incarnations of ST until Enterprise. My wife has completely lost interest in watching Enterprise and would rather sit and do crossword puzzles.
