HI my wife has been coughing quite badly past few days, but she's unwilling to go to Dr.

However everytime she cough (very often at night), she feels lots of pain at her back. Have hard time sleeping, everytime she lies on the bed, she coughs more

My question is can she(pregnant at 6 months currently) take tyenol or aspirin to ease pain?

I gonna go to pharmacy to ask the same Q anyways but....just want more opinion

tks

I would MAKE her go in. It sounds like pneumonia and she can have serious complications, especially being pregnant.

Bronchitis or walking pneumonia. Needs to be treated by antibiotics.

Is she on bed rest? I don't want to alarm, but it could be a pulmonary embolism. I got one during bed rest. I had severe back pain and trouble breathing. I would cough because it felt like something was lodged in my lungs. It could also be pneumonia. She should get check out asap.

Sounds like it could be pneumonia. She really needs to see a medical professional.

If she won't make the appt for herself, make it for her and take her in.

Pain is not good.

I would get her to go into her Dr! She has been seeing an OB right? She should just call and explain to the OB, who I'm sure will have her come in.
Post nasal drip can also cause coughing at night, and is associated with pregnancy. (I have it. Good times!) The coughing alone can give you back pain, but if it is to the point that she needs Tylenol and can't sleep, she should be talking with a doctor just in case!
It could end up being just nasal drip, but like others have mentioned it could be something much worse, and there is certainly no harm in making sure!

She's 6 months pregnant, experiencing painful symptoms, and is unwilling to go to the doctor?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I just don't know what to say.

Make her go to the doctor. Get an x-ray. She could have Pneumonia and or Pleurisy. Nothing to fool around with.

I had something similar when I was pregnant. It was bronchitis.

I coughed so hard I fractured a rib, pulled all the muscles on one side and broke a blood vessel in one eye (which left me functionally blind in that eye until the blood dissolved).

I cant imagine being that sick and not going to the Dr if I am pregnant. Tell her she needs to go for the baby's sake.

I knew of two young ladies that didn't get checked for the same type symptoms. They passed away. :( One coughed so hard she threw an emboli (blood clot) and it killed her. They both had influenza. The statistics for death from influenza are pretty high.

INFLUENZA STATISTICS

The flu isn’t always thought of as a serious or life-threatening illness. Because of the dangers and complications it can have in older people, children, and people with health problems, the perception of flu severity is changing.

In the U.S., an estimated 25–50 million cases of the flu are currently reported each year — leading to 150,000 hospitalizations and 30,000–40,000 deaths yearly. If these figures were to be estimated incorporating the rest of the world, there would be an average of approximately 1 billion cases of flu, around 3–5 million cases of severe illness, and 300,000–500,000 deaths annually.

Flu-related deaths can result from pneumonia and from exacerbations of cardiopulmonary conditions and other chronic diseases. Deaths of older adults account for more than 90% of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza.

Please get her checked and keep us posted.

ETA- It might not be the flu. But better safe than sorry.

Please get her to the doctor- I agree sounds like Pneumonia or some other bronchial virus- neither or which are good for her or the baby!!
