So totally random question.

But today my friend coughed and said excuse me. Is it like impolite to cough? And polite to say excuse me?

Because I've never heard that before. Do you do it?

I've never done that before. I don't think it's impolite ... it's natural, and people cough all the time.

I say excuse me sometimes when I cough.
I usually don't say excuse me when I'm with my friends or family.
Anyone else I usually do though.

If I did, then these past two days, I would have had to say it a kazillion times.
Yeah, laryngitis is nooo fun.

I just don't see the purpose of saying excuse me.

If I cough whilst someone is talking to me or if I'm in the middle of talking to someone then I'll say excuse me/sorry, but otherwise I don't say anything.

If I cough while I'm talking to someone, I'd probably say excuse me. Other than that, no.

I don't think it's impolite to cough though during school i end up coughing with my mouth closed (like of like a "hem" i guess...) so it doesn't make much noise and won't disturb the class.

i only say excuse me after i cough, if its really bad coughing and i'm interupting someone or somthing. Like a news reader in NZ who had a coughing fit in the middle of the news and someone had to rush in with a cup of water he said excuse me and sorry a lot after that poor thing, but it was funny yeah, it depends on the situation

Unless you don't cover your mouth, I don't think it's impolite to cough. It's not like you can control it, or at least not every time. If oyu don't cover your mouth I think you should just say "excuse me" though.

I wouldnt do that unless Im making a speech or something
