Has anyone tried this? Did it work for you? May I ask in what kind of shape you were before you started? I´m 50lbs too heavy, but otherwise healthy, but really want to start exercising and preferably out in fresh air (not at a gym). I NEED to do something!

my daughter in law is doing this for the first time...

She is a little overweight and started off slow..

First she did a run for a few minutes and then walk..

Then run for a few more and then walk....

She increased it on her daily runs and this past

Sunday she did her almost 3 miles in the walk and run

You can do it too......just take it easy at first and increase

your pace ....music is a good enhancer as you are doing this..

Her race is May 1st..

Good Luck

Couch 2 5K is awesome! Starts you out slow then builds up your actual running time so that by the end you are running for a full 30 minutes. I started the C25K last March and did the Disney Half in January so it worked for me. I was truely a coucher.

BTW, check out the WISH board. A lot of there have done it and had success with it.

I did it last year. Went from Couch to 5k to marathon in one year and lost 50lbs in the process. I highly recommend it! Check out the W.I.S.H boards. Lots of people there doing it.

OMG, can´t even begin to imagine running a 1/2 marathon. Well done!

Wow, what an inspiration! Congrats!

I did C25K last year. I wasn't overweight when I started it; I walked often but never ran before. Like, I could only run for a very short distance, maybe 1/4 mile if that. I now run 6 miles at a time and love it. C25K is great...it starts you out slow and builds up. And if yo don't feel ready to move on, just repeat a week. You can do it!!

I started the program yesterday! If you have an iPhone or iTouch, you can download the app for $2-3. I'm about 40lbs overweight, and really truly hate cardio workouts, but I really want to do this! I actually liked it!

Get started! Let's do this together!

I just started a couch to 5k program -- I have a podcast I downloaded from Itunes that has the running intervals coached along with some music. Last week was the first week, it was 8 intervals of 60 seconds running/90 seconds walking.

I am at least 75 pounds overweight. I exercise on and off but haven't really done anything all winter. I had no problem doing the program last week, I even managed one day running into the wind and pushing 80 pounds in a stroller! So I definitely think this is something anyone can do, starting at any fitness level.

Is the music good? I know it´s a silly question but my main "fear" has been if I need to listen to nothing but the guy who tells me when to walk and when to run :rotfl:
Good for you to have started!

The app I mentioned lets you listen to whatever music you want to!

Everyone I know that used the C25K program loved it. Some were a little out of shape or were in decent shape but had no endurance and others were so out of shape that getting up stairs winded them. All off them were able to make it through the program and do a 5K.

The nice thing about the program is that it takes it slowly which is important when you are starting out but it also lets you progress at your own pace. If you get stuck on a week you get to redo it and make whatever changes are necessary to complete it.

Good luck and I second checking out the WISH boards. A lot of people who do 5Ks or half marathons at Disney started with the C25K program.

Well, not particularly -- it's just instrumental pop/dance style music. It wouldn't be my first choice, but it's something to listen to and focus on a bit to distract me from the workout. If you can use the app that a previous poster mentioned that lets you listen to what you want and still keep track easily of the intervals, that would be my first choice (I don't have an iphone or anything that uses apps). But it's nice to not have to mess with a watch and timing the intervals myself, and the music isn't annoying or awful, it's just there.

Thanks for the info. Going to download the other app on my iPod. I think I need MY music ;)
