There are 3 of us, DH, DD5 and me. DD's favorite Disney character is Dumbo, her favorite Disney channel show is Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

We were thinking she could be Izzy for the party. What do you think? Would people know who she was? DH said he'd be Mr. Smeed, and no clue who I'd be?? suggestions??

When we went when she was 3 1/2 people thought she looked just like Boo, and were telling us they wanted her autograph, and having fun with it. Not sure if she would pass as Boo at 5.

Dumbo would be totally cool, but would be hard I think.... and we are flying in so we have to take that into consideration on our costume choices.

This is our first time going during Halloween so I wanna make it really fun and memorable.

I really need some help. I also thought DH and I could make t'shirts and be FP tickets or something, that'd be fun too.

Any suggestions? I could use some creativity about now. Thanks!!

I think Dumbo would be a fun one to do as a family. Your daughter could be Timothy the mouse. Get her a red jacket and mouse ears and a little red hat attached on a head band. Your husband could be dumbo. You wouldn't need to bring a big suit, just make some oversized ears out of fabric, using wire to make them stick out, and attach them to a hat or headband. You could bring coat hangers for wire and assemble them into the ears after you arrive. As for you, you could be Mrs. Jumbo dumbo's mother (and I mean this we absolutely no disrespect!), the ring master, Or one of the crows.

I'm not sure if many people will recognize you as Jake characters. How about going as Tinkerbell, Wendy and Peter Pan?

My DD loves to dress up, so she has lots of costumes. The Disney Store has a super cute Izzy costume that we bought a month or so ago. Here is a link: http://www.disneystore.com/costumes...es-izzy-costume-for-girls/mp/1308241/1000396/

We are going to the HP on 10/23, and she keeps going back and forth between Izzy and Merida.

If your DD wants to be Izzy and DH Mr. Smee, you could go as Tinkerbell....even though she isn't in the cartoon, her Pixie Dust is. pixiedust:
I am at a loss with Dumbo costume suggestions.

I'll think more about the costumes themselves later...I wouldn't recognize Izzy but the show is fairly popular and there are a lot of parents of young kids at DL, so I'll bet your daughter would get recognized. If you can find a prop that is something in the show, even better. I had a Belle blue dress costume but a purse made of a Chip the teacup plushie, so I got called Belle a lot. :)

One thing to be careful of--unless your daughter hates attention--is to not make yourselves more recognizable (or with cuter/more creative/more interesting/more impressive costumes) than your daughter. I read a parent here who was upset that they were getting more attention than their kid/children. Tinkerbells are not uncommon in the parks so unless you'd be a dead ringer, I don't know that the attention aspect would be a problem, but it wouldn't surprise me if CMs called you Tinkerbell and didn't recognize your daughter Izzy.

Personally- I would go for Dumbo. There will be a ton of pirates, kids and families alike. So I would personally want my child to have a more unique costume.

Timothy the Mouse would be super cute! And you could just buy her a stuffed animal Dumbo to carry around instead of one of you having to dress up as Dumbo.;) You could also try and make a Dumbo costume or search out Etsy for some great homemade costumes.

Dumbo was on "the list" for my DS because it was his very 1st Disney ride. It's also the 1st ride we do on every visit- so its become a bit of a tradition & holds a special place in our hearts.:goodvibes But frankly, trying to figure out how to get my Dumbo on the rides was just too much of a challange. Could you imagine those ears flapping around on Space Mtn??:rotfl:

Anyways, we went with a Sorceror Mickey costume. My mom is sewing the actual robe part of it & I bought the white Mickey hands off ebay & DS already had the Sorcerer Hat from our last DL visit.

I spent a few months struggling to come up with a good costume. I knew that DH would NOT participate so DS was going it alone. I knew that I wanted it to be easy for DS to get around & easy to get on & off rides. I wanted him to be warm enough in case the weather got too chilly. And finally, I knew that I wanted something unique. I didn't want DS to be a pirate in a sea of pirates. Or BUZZ in a field of Buzz & Woody's. KWIM?;)

So my advice- write down what you "want or need" out of the costume. Do you care if it's SO big that DD can't do any rides? Does it need to fold up easily for the plane? Think of accessories- wigs, hats, stuffed Dumbo's, etc....Good luck!!

Yeah, I'd say Boo would be hard to do at 5, unless you did the full purple get up.

We're taking my 1.5 year old daughter as Boo and my nephews 7 and 5 as Sully and Mike. The Boo costume is impossible to get since Disney doesn't make it anymore. We were able to buy Mike and Sully, but my mom is making Boo.

I think Dumbo is really cute, but I have a hard time picturing what it would look like. I also really like Izzy for her too, that's perfect!

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions and input!!

She doesn't know we are going to DL, we are suprising her, so as far as she knows we are just planning her Halloween costume, haha! :) I'm gonna run the Timothy Mouse thing past her and she what she says.

I also forgot she wanted to be maybe Violet from the incredibles. We have a costume (not sure if it still fits) that someone gave us, and DD has brown hair like her we could comb over her eye, haha.

Costco had a super cute Merida costume with wig the other day for those looking for that. My problem is, and it's "my" problem no one else's in the family, I've made all her costumes so far and I want to keep it up as long as possible, so it has to be something I can make :) She's been a pumpkin, itsy bitsy spider, a bee and Tinkerbell thus far.

OK, the Disney website has instructions for making your own Dumbo ears. (Though the concept could work for Timothy, too.)

They look fairly comfortable and I don't think they'd be a problem so long as she slipped them off on rides. You could make the ears, hat, ruff, a tail if you want, and either make a gray outfit, or just get her a comfortable gray T-shirt and pants. If she wanted a trunk you could do that too, but I think I'd skip that, personally. She could have a Timothy mouse plush to hold, maybe a magic feather. It wouldn't be much to pack, really.

If you and your husband wanted, you could just be circus folk...clown (I don't like them but some folks do!), ringmaster, lion tamer, trapeze artist, etc. etc. Or anyone else from the movie, but I only saw it once AGES ago so I can't help there. (I am assuming that most women don't generally want to dress as elephants, but being Dumbo's mom is an option too. :) )

I think it is great that you're making her costume! I went to the Halloween party in 2010 and wore a Belle village dress costume my mom had made me years ago! This year I'm wanting to make my own though. :)
