Costumes at MNSSHP?

We are planning to attend MNSSHP one night. I know we would all be more comfortable NOT wearing costumes. DS9 refuses to wear ANY sort of make-up or anything - he has been that way since he was tiny. On Halloween he usually wears a costume but no mask or make-up. He has never had his face painted and doesn't even care for temporary tattoos.

Do the majority of the kids wear costumes, or is it about half and half? I read on the thread from last year that there are MNSSHP T-shirts available, so that would be a good option for us. I just don't want to get there and have him be upset that we didn't bring a costume. We won't be there Halloween night - it will be one of the earlier days in October. Thanks! :earsboy:

Most people wear costumes! I would suggest decorating T-Shirts before hand and just wear those with pesonalized Mickey Ears. The t-shirts could say MNSSHP 2005 and the mouse ears would have your names on them. Have Fun!

...I have been there 6 times at least I think...the first time my kids were the same way, no interest in dressing up, and that was a good choice, a way HOT night...since then, one goes all out the others don't and vice versa. The main point for you to know is that you and your family, no matter how decked out or not, will not feel out of place. You will have a fun time!

We went last year, and what I did was, I went to Walmart and bought all of us matching holloween T-Shirts. My DD (10) dressed up in a very light weight costume that she and my MIL made. She did not paint her face or anything.

Going to MNSSHP over the last 9 years costumed kids and especially adults are getting way more popular than in the early days of the Halloween party! Alot of kids dress up but none of you should feel out of place at all if you don't!! :) You can still Trick or Treat costumed or not.

If you're crafty you can paint your own Halloween t-shirts so you have them before you get to WDW.You can find a Halloween coloring book or coloring pages on the web.Transfer your picture onto a shirt and paint it.You can also purchase tshirt tranfer paper that you just iron on a picture you print out.Or make your own design up. Have your son paint his own shirt! :earsboy: DS Erich painted a Halloween pillow slip when he was about 6.He did a really great spider and web,he still uses it, through the month of Oct, and he's 11 now!

I know alot of stores in my area, probably yours too, have really cute Hallowen shirts even some with Disney characters.

Or you could go with something that could easily become a costume...black or denim shorts a striped shirt...bring along a bandana for his head and a patch, both easy to carry and viola ,ya have a pirate if he wants to dress up after he gets to the party! pirate:

I went to the second MNSSHP on Oct 2 last fall and I would say about 50-60% of the people had on costumes.

Thanks, everyone!

Wow, I guess I didn't realize that costumes would be all the rage! I will definitely talk with DS and see what he wants to do. I think Baloo's idea of some quick -n- easy pirate accessories would work well. And we already have those lying around the house!

I have a Halloween sweatshirt from the Disney Store but it is usually too hot to wear it! I also have two T-shirts (long and short sleeved) with my soulmate, Jack Skellington on them. I'll be sure to pack them all!

I know there have been plenty of hot Halloweens around here - kids sweltering up and down the streets! I'll be sure to keep things simple and easily adaptable to weather conditions! :earsboy:

Gone down the last 2 years, mid Oct. Most people in costumes. This year my DH wore an orange polo shirt, I wore a green on and had a vine with big leaves pined all over me- he was my "pumkin" and I was de-vine....Sorry!
I did get a t-shirt , it was over $30 I think. I really did not want to remember how much I paid for it....
Tons of fun.

if your DS is like my boys he's into Legos, right?? The Lego stores have cool costumes for boys!! My 8 year old was a knight and my 10 year old was a Bionicle last year, and we went to MNSSHP. They were very comfortable in the costumes too! Lego.com sold one or two costumes, but the Lego stores had a better selection (we actually got ours in Legoland, San Diego, but we saw them in the Lego store in DTD while we were there for Halloween)

In 2003, we did MNSSHP on the 30th and 31st. I would say the majority then, adults and kids, have some costume on. We dressed up as pirates, but we weren't 100% comfy in our costumes.

We're doing MNSSHP this year, and we're planning on being mouseketeers. White shirt with name on the front and MMC logo on the back. Black shorts or skirt and the black mouse ears. Something comfy and yet fits the party.

Although I haven't decided if we'll use our real name on the shirts or go with "Annette" and "Cubby." :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I always get a Halloween T-shirt from Target or Old Navy for my kids :) Last year, DD3 dressed up as a princess, and I suspect that will be the same this year. But my boys that are 9 & 15 love wearing t-shirts!

Last year, we went as mousekeeters. Black shorts, white shirts, with Sticky letters for the names, so we could use them later. Add mickey ears, and you are set.

We were comfortable all night.
