Costumes are worth it for princesses

We went to WDW in December with our 3 grandkids aged 5,4 and 2. On the first day we went to MK and the girls were dressed as Cinderella and the boy was wearing a Prince Charming costume I had made him. The bus driver announced that there were princesses aboard and asked us to stay behind when everyone exited. He took the kids to some castmembers that were waiting for them and they let them choose from a treasure box. One chose a balloon and the other two chose bubbles. They took pictures of the kids and gave us two fastpass certificates to be used on any fastpass ride.
When in the park, castmembers would curtsy or bow to them and say, "Hello princess (or Prince Charming)". Maintainence workers even got down on one knee and kissed the girls hand! The funniest time was during a parade when my GD5 was dressed as Snow White. All the princesses called out to her and waved when they went by. Snow White said, "Look, we match!" Then came the queen from Snow White. DD5 was smiling and waving at her. The queen came right up to DD5, spread out her cape and said, "Don't you wave at me! I don't like Snow White!" DD5 buried her face in my shoulder, but she was laughing. I wish I had videotaped it.

How very cool! My DD is only 2 but I know I will be dragging those Princess dresses with us so she can be a princess too!

The cast members are the best to help Welcome the children in these ways!

That is so sweet! I just love it with the "castmembers" really go that extra mile! We are going mid December, so for Halloween I'm going to make sure to have my girls be princeses so they can take them to Disney when we go. Thanks so much for that story!

I'm so happy to hear this! We're taking our DD, age 5, on her first WDW trip in February and I've been wondering whether it was worth it to take up space to pack her Cinderella dress. You've now convinced me!

She loves wearing it around the house and I'm sure she will be thrilled to wear it to the park, especially if we get some great moments like you had.

Now, I just have to figure out how to convince her that she can't wear the glass slippers...can't imagine she could walk around in those all day long. Maybe I can find some "glass" sneakers, LOL!

What age would you stop dressing the little girls as princesses?

I think it depends on the child. My DD9 still likes to get dressed up when we go to Disneyworld.

During our December trip dd (6.5yo) wore her Minnie Mouse dress for dinner at Chef Mickey's (Mickey and Minnie both LOVED it!), Cinderella dress for dinner at 1900 Park Fare (Drizella commented that she was beautiful and that she always thought that Cindy should be a brunette!) and Snow White for our breakfast in Akershus.

This July we are visiting for dd's 7th birthday and I'm planning on bringing her Minnie dress for Chef Mickey's, Cinderella for 1900 Park Fare and CRT and I just picked up a red deluxe Belle dress at TDS on sale last month (only $35!) for her to wear for breakfast at Akershus again!

Dd wore her dresses around the parks a little bit, but I'm not thinking she's going to want to much in July because of the heat!

What age would you stop dressing the little girls as princesses?

Let them decide. If they no longer want to, then they're too old. Then there are the castmembers who portray the characters in the parks...they never outgrow it. lol
