Costume sewing patterns?

I can find Cinderella patterns our the wazoo for my little princess....but what about my little prince? Can anyone recommend a good (Cinderella's) Prince Charming sewing pattern?

Also ... what sort of fabric do all you seamstresses make princess costumes out of? Ideally, I'd like it to be washable and not-too-heavy. We're traveling in March, so it won't be crazy-crazy-crazy hot ... but lightweight is probably better than full-flung heavy satin.

Any ideas, tips, etc are greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure you're easily going to find a Prince Charming pattern; most boys wouldn't be caught dead dressing as a character from a "girl movie", so there isn't much market for them. Prince Philip might be easier; McCall's has a medieval knight costume with a tabard and cape that would work. If you're really good, Butterick has an adult male-sized Regency-era military officer's uniform; that's pretty close for PC, but the coat is a cutaway w/ tails, not a tunic, and of course, you would have to cut it way down. Also, you could try eBay, people sell vintage patterns there, and you might be able to get a Nehru Jacket pattern from the sixties.

As to fabric, I make costume dresses out of sateen bedsheets that I buy at Tuesday Morning. Nice sheen and good drape, but they are cotton and very soft and comfy. You get a lot of fabric in a sheet set, too.

I made my daughter's Snow White costume out of broadcloth material. It is pretty lightweight so for Halloween I actually made her wear a turtleneck underneath to be sure she'd have some extra warmth. Amazingly enough, I made it 2 years ago and she can still wear it today. It'll be getting some extra use from DD in May. (DS has gotten too big for the dwarf costume I made to match).
