I put this post on the budget board because I am hoping for inexpensive ideas and this is the board I visit the most! One week from today I am attending a trivia themed "through the decades" and we can win for best costume and best decorated table - any ideas? I know the obvious, hippie, rocker, flapper but am looking for something not so common so I could win!! I have no idea how to stay with the theme for the table decorations...........any suggestions would be great! TIA

What if each one of you dressed from a specific decade and on your table you had corresponding food in front of that person. So your table could be the embodiment of the theme.

Or you table could be decorated with "technology" from your decade--old electronics are easy to find at the goodwill...can anyone say Sony Walkman...

Or you could bring popular boardgames from decades past and each dress up like a game piece.

I agree...you can get great deals at thrift shops - not as good deals at Goodwill, but you could still find something to inspire you. It was amazing the stuff we saw the last couple weekends. I think it is easiest to search first rather than come up with ideas in advance. Your budget is a bit more restricted if you plan something because it turns into a scavenger hunt.

What decade are you looking to do??? That would be what you need for someone to help you.

Like say the '70 You could dress as the Mickey Mouse Phone from way back then! there is streach Arm strong, Evial Canvial, can't think of anymore because I hardly remember the 5 years I was in the '70's :lmao:!!! As for the table like someone said try the second hand stores. Do you have to have food items? If so you can go and find some old cookbooks and find some things to make.

It you want to do the '80's you can dress like an rubics cube, cabbage patch doll, a smurf, he-man/shera, Jem from the cartoon Jem and the Rockers...or was it the holagrams?... For the table same as above.

Or you could go another root and do Movies or Music costumes and such. Just find the popular movies and there ya go. Jaws, Rocky hariorr Movie, and so on!!

Good Luck and have fun.

I was going to say music thru the ages... do the music from the 20's and use the old Victrola style to decorate a table & dress to the era.

then proceed on from there..doing each era... and doing the same thing.. music, record player & clothing.....
