Costs to get room painted?

First, let me preface this by saying I understand pricing will vary based on location, I'm just looking for a general idea.

Because a filler valve in a toilet broke while we were out of town this weekend, we've had to get the carpets pulled in that bathroom, a hallway, DD's room, DS's room, and our bedroom.

There was water stain on the drywall in the bathroom and the estimator/project manager is recommending the room be repainted (he's fairly confident it's just a stain and not damaged).

DD has wanted her room repainted for a while. It wouldn't hurt to repaint our room or the hallway either (house is 10 years old). I just repainted DS's room a couple months ago.

While yes, I can repaint all of this, I'm wondering what it would cost to have the painter who does the bathroom just take care of the rest of it. DD's room would be a different color, our bedroom & hallway would be one color (probably) and the bathroom would be a color.

The hallway is ~15' long.
DD's room is ~20x15'
Our room is ~25x25'

Any ideas?

Also, if you repainted a room, would you bother repainting the closet walls?

Thanks

i can't answer as to cost, because we are DIY kind of people, but as to the closet walls, it depends. Do you have closet doors? Then I would probably say no, don't worry about the closet walls.
We took all of our closet doors down- they just seem to get off track and need fixing anyway- and incorporated the design of the bedrooms into the closets as well.

We are DIY people as well. I will say that we just painted our entire downstairs: walls, trims, baseboards, doors, windowframes, stair risers, upper handrail and ceilings.

The paint itself is more costly than the last time we painted (in some rooms about 5-6 years).

If you are talking different colors, that would cost more for the person. Were you planning on asking the painters as an "off the books" transaction? Remember they are coming as a contracted by insurance company. They many not/can not do any additonal work while they are there. You could ask them when they are free again to come for another job. Since you are asking for more rooms, that may cut into the time and cost of the job.

The painter may be willing to do it, but they may need to come back another day.

As for closet walls, my DH says yes. I say no.

I can't advise you as to the cost of hiring painters, because I have painted every room of our house myself. I can say that if you're going to paint a bedroom, you should paint inside the closets as well. You might as well do the job right. Otherwise, the job only looks half done.

The cost of hiring a painter to do each room would probably be around $300-$400 roughly so you'd be looking at over $1,000 probably.

As for closets, that is personal preference. Some prefer all closets to be white, while others like to paint them the same color as the room they are in. I happen to like painted closets that match the room, except for REALLY tiny closets, in which I think white brightens them up.

From my experience I've found that contractors hired to paint by ins companies and such charge more than if you just hired a painter.

I have a huge frog. I had a painter in who had been hired by Lowes ( totally long story, but Lowe's paid to paint my family room/upstairs downstairs hall/2 story foyer. While the painter was there I asked him for a quote of our large frog. Wow is all I can say. I told him thanks but no thanks and found my own painter who charged less than half as much.

If you are into fashion, then closets should stay white, so you can accurately see the colors of the clothes hanging.

My DH is a remodeler and is actually painting an entire house now.He says the above is correct for around here, not including trim, that's extra, and of course not including paint.

He always paints the closets bright white, but closets painted add to the cost.

I'm a DIY as well, but I hired a painter to paint our 2-story entry way. Because the walls wrap around, he also painted the upstairs hall way. I also had him do all the trim and doors. In all, he painted one side of 9 doors, trim in the hall, trim on the stairs (not spindles or banister, just baseboards), trim in the downstairs entry way. I purchased the paint because I wanted Sherwin Williams paint and he was going to use Behr. He works by himself, so it took almost 4 days to complete. His charge was $950.00.

We are painting the inside of our house now, in stages. My husband has already painted the master bedroom, our great room, kitchen, breakfast room, and foyer. He is also going to paint our hallway, powder room, laundry room and study but hasn't done it yet. He will repaint our teen daughter's room when she leaves for college this fall. We are hiring a painter to paint the dining room (14 foot ceilings) and our master bath (tall, vaulted ceiling over the tub). We are using expensive paint (Benjamin Moore Aura) because it covers beautifully with one coat (love, love, love that paint!). This is saving money with the painter because he only has to paint once. He is charging us $150 for the dining room and $175 for the master bath and that's a bargain in my opinion.

We also typically do all our own painting. We did hire a painter to do our vaulted living/dining room and our stair way and small landing at the top of the steps since all these areas required scaffolding and such which we did not have. He also painted the ceiling in the vaulted room and did the trim in there as well. He supplied all the paint and it cost $1700 and took him 2 full days. Well worth the money though.

I got 3-4 quotes and 2 were more than double the price. One was a husband/wife team that quoted me an hourly rate but I wasn't comfortable with that. The guy we chose did an excellent and professional job at what I considered a very affordable price.
